Nursing Student Programs

PIE offers students a unique opportunity to participate in a three-month observational program. Held during the fall and spring semesters, the program features 10 days of observation, virtual learning sessions, and personalized mentorship with a nursing professional. Open to: Students in their junior or senior year of a BSN program, final year of an ADN program, or in an accelerated BSN program.

In partnership with Drexel University, we welcome two Co-Op cohorts—Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter—to gain hands-on experience at CHOP each year. A centralized program through Nursing Operations/Professional Development, the Co-Op is offered at two levels and two locations (Philadelphia and King of Prussia, Pa.).

Open to: Drexel University students. Requirements vary based on role and Co-Op level (i.e. you must be a Nursing major to enroll in the Lvl II Co-Op). 

Apply academic knowledge to practice, participate in educational seminars, and provide hands-on patient care alongside nurse preceptors. Externs rotate through units across CHOP, including medical/surgical, ambulatory, intensive care, perioperative, behavioral health, and at Middleman Family Pavilion in King of Prussia, Pa. Assignments are finalized just before the 10-week summer program starts.   

Open to: Students within 12 months of completing a BSN, ASN, or Nursing diploma program (or who will be by the start of the externship). 

A summer program designed to stimulate career interest in pediatric oncology, the Flynn Fellowship provides comprehensive clinical exposure to the full continuum of cancer care. This enriching experience involves classroom time, weekly “lunch-and-learn” sessions, and shadow days.

Open to: Students within 12 months of completing a BSN, ASN, or Nursing diploma program (or who will be by the start of the externship).
