Job Summary

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) Research Institute and its Dept of Biomedical and Health Informatics (DBHi) are seeking a software engineer to help build an enterprise-level data and informatics platform called “Arcus”. The Arcus team integrates with major scientific initiatives in the Research Institute strategic plan, high-impact research areas such as lifespan, rare diseases, novel devices and therapeutics, and precision health.

 

This role will work on a small team focused on architecting and implementing a cloud-native platform that supports the goals of the Arcus program. We are looking for highly creative people who share our mission to advance child health and who will thrive in a continuous learning environment, acquiring and applying both new technical skills and biomedical domain knowledge.
 

Job Responsibilities


•    Communicate with stakeholders and team members during the development lifecycle.
•    Design and implement gRPC and/or HTTP services supporting one or more related capabilities.
•    Use of and integration with cloud services offered by Google Cloud Platform.
•    Documentation of design decisions over time.
•    Apply a “branch-based” git workflow, leveraging pull requests and code review feedback.
•    Contribute to issue conversations and code reviews.
•    Deploy and operate services in a Kubernetes environment.
•    Disseminate re-usable components as open source software when appropriate.

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree

 

Required Experience:

  • At least three (3) years of programming experience with progressively more complex projects.
  • Previous experience with continuous learning and adoption of new languages and frameworks.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in quality assurance, continuous integration and deployment, configuration management, or other aspect of software and application validation.
Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

 

Preferred Education: Master’s degree in computer science, biomedical engineering, information science, or related field

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Four (4) or more years of programming experience with progressively more complex projects.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience developing, configuring, or customizing software in a clinical environment.

                                                                                                                     

Preferred Licenses/certificates/registrations: Epic Certifications

Additional Technical Requirements
  • Demonstrated track record of continuous learning and adoption of new languages and frameworks.
  • Experience writing Go (the language) is strongly recommended.
  • Experience with interfacing with a variety of database systems is strongly recommended.
  • Experience applying domain-driven design is recommended.
  • Experience applying event sourcing is a recommended.
