Job Summary

An entry-level Lab Technician position is available in a research lab focused on studying the genetics of several pediatric disorders. The primary focus of Dr. Nancy Spinner’s lab is utilizing gene expression and next generation sequencing (whole genome/exome) to study how genes can cause related clinical phenotypes, with an emphasis on improving diagnostics. The lab uses a variety of molecular biology and genetics techniques. We are looking for someone who is motivated to learn new techniques and/or build on technical skills they have already started to develop. A willingness to work with zebrafish is required.


 We will consider applicants that have strong work study/post-bac wet bench experience.

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs routine experiments under training of a supervisor
  • Performs research procedures on experimental samples as directed
  • Maintains accurate records of experiments with lab notebooks
  • Performs tasks/experiments that may require training for both fundamental techniques and equipment
  • Receives all appropriate on-site training to carry out responsibilities, including training to work with zebrafish
  • Maintains and performs simple experiments using zebrafish
  • Assists with planning research protocols and experimental design
  • Assists in care and maintenance of equipment and lab, which includes cleaning and sterilizing glassware, working surfaces/lab benches, and receiving/unpacking/storing packages
  • Attends lab meetings and any necessary seminars
  • Compiles and helps to analyze/present data
  • Conducts literature searches
  • Ability to work independently
  • Self Motivated and driven individual

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Associate's Degree


Required Experience: 1 year of laboratory experience or related intership experience

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Education: Bachelor’s Degree

Preferred Experience:
