A History of Excellence
CHOP's Department of Surgery has a rich and sustained tradition of excellence. Since 1995, the department has been led by Dr. N. Scott Adzick (left), an internationally recognized pioneer in fetal surgery who has dedicated his career to the pursuit of prenatal treatments for life-threatening and debilitating birth defects.

Dr. Adzick serves as the C. Everett Koop Professor of Pediatric Surgery at CHOP; Professor of Surgery, Pediatrics, and Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine; and founder and director of our Richard D. Wood Jr. Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment. During his 30-year tenure, our department has grown from 34 pediatric surgical specialists in 1995 to more than 140.

We strive to continue this history of surgical innovation with the appointment of the next Surgeon-in-Chief at CHOP.
