What Care Team Assistants Are Saying

The CTA program was an incredible experience, especially as someone going into the medical field. I learned so much sitting in the work room and felt prepared going into medical school. Having firsthand experience in the hospital has helped me learn things quickly.

My time as a CTA helped me feel more comfortable in an ICU environment. I also developed my self-advocacy skills. Some of my most impactful experiences at CHOP were a result of simply asking if I could observe a procedure or sit in on a meeting. These are opportunities that pre-med students rarely get.

The CTA role was an experience like no other. I can't imagine a growth-year job teaching me more. I learned a lot of medicine and developed skills that you need to work in healthcare—mainly, patience, resilience, and perseverance.

I could go on and on about how great the CTA program is. I don't think there is a better opportunity for those interested in medicine. I had a head start in medical school, and know that the skills I learned as a CTA will give me a huge boost once I start clinical rotations. Sometimes I think I learned more at CHOP than I have in my first two years of medical school.

Overall, the CTA program is what most prepared me for my clinical rotations. I felt more prepared than most of my classmates due to experience working in a hospital and ICU setting. I understood the typical workflow and felt confident speaking to attendings, patients, and families. I loved the [CTA] job so much I continued to work nights while in PA school.
