Position Spotlight
Social Work and Family Support
Support, inform, and educate patients and families coping with new or ongoing illnesses.
We offer career advancement programs, conference support, professional development units for certification maintenance, peer mentorship opportunities, and a paid Child Life Specialist training program for employees.
Child Life Specialists (CLS) are assigned to every inpatient unit and many outpatient areas, including the Wood Center for Fetal Diagnoses and Treatment, Day Surgery, Radiology, Proton Therapy, and two Pediatric and Adolescent Specialty Care Centers. CLS benefit from highly competitive starting salaries, career growth opportunities, paid volunteer time, relocation assistance, and Associate of Child Life Professionals (ACLP) membership after one year of employment.
Our social workers provide services during inpatient hospitalizations, at outpatient offices and clinics, and after patients return home. Clinical services provided at CHOP include psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, supportive counseling, hospital and community resource navigation guidance, behavioral health assessments, child advocacy/protection, and discharge planning.
We work to minimize the stress of a hospital stay through creative art therapies and play, including through our Patient Media and Broadcasting, Electronics & Technology, and Pet Therapy programs.
