Job Summary

The Student Informatics Assistant 1 will work in the Dept of Biomedical and Health Informatics to develop a utility application that will benefit clinical genetics laboratories. Specifically, this position will convert family history data collected via an internally developed application (www.probandapp.com) to an open pedigree standard. This will allow users of Proband to import pedigrees into other systems and analyze them with existing tools. The role will involve learning about family history pedigree representations and coding the utility in Python or Go.

 

This position will support up to 20 hrs per week at a competitive hourly compensation.
 

Job Responsibilities
  • Proficiently uses a wide variety of computational methods and languages.
  • Applies a thorough knowledge of software development approaches.
  • Helps to develop analysis of results & interpretation of data, scientific, or computational methods.
  • Assists with planning specific research protocols & procedures.
  • Assists in development & troubleshooting of new algorithms and software.
  • Assists in preparation / submission of reports, prof. research papers/materials for IRB, OTT, or other administrative approval.
Required Education and Experience

Required Education: High School/GED

Required Experience: 1+ internships or paid experience in a research informatics environment.

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Experience: Enrolled in undergraduate program at a 2 or 4 year college or university desirable.

Additional Technical Requirements
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work in an organized fashion, work well with others.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications desirable.
  • Familiarity with coding in at least one language.
