Windows Systems Engineer II

Job Summary

In the role of a Windows Systems Engineer II you will contribute your expertise to the following areas of responsibility:


• Build and deploy servers for new projects
• Active Directory
• DNS
• Group Policy
• Monthly Patching
• NTFS Permission Proficiency – Ability to support shared drives and drive mappings
• Building and supporting Windows guests on VMWare
• Windows Print Server support


The selected candidate will work with the following Server class OS’s:


• Windows Server 2008
• Windows Server 2008 R2
• Windows Server 2012
• Windows Server 2012 R2
• Windows Server 2016
• Windows Server 2019

 

  1. Contributes to analysis and design for current and emerging technologies within their discipline.
  2. Exhibits advanced technical knowledge of and expertise in all aspects of systems engineering as outlined in Level I.
  3. Demonstrates the ability to analyze trends, provides systems statistical trending & analysis, performs server capacity & threshold testing, and follows appropriate escalation and notification procedures.
  4. Exhibits expertise in delivering technical engineering solutions and direction, performance tuning and technology refreshments, identifying opportunities for deploying new technology.
  5. Participates in enterprise-wide on-call rotation. In addition to the areas defined in Level I capabilities, also demonstrates the ability to create detailed work-related documentation.
  6. Exhibits intermediate expertise in critiquing the use of existing and future technologies.
  7. Coaches and trains Level I staff and peers with differing detailed knowledge.
  8. Assists in the orientation and integration of Level I hires.
  9. Participates in Chop corporate and IS processes including, but not limited to, work flow, project management, time accounts and employee reviews.

Job Responsibilities

The responsibilities of a Systems Engineer II encompass identical responsibilities as a Systems Engineer I, but with a greater degree of complexity.  A Systems Engineer II also:

  1. Responsible for working with the technical team to continually improve availability, response time and overall performance of systems supported by the 7x24 Data Center
  2. Works with on-call staff, management, equipment vendors, or other appropriate contacts to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
  3. Analyzes trend, provides systems statistical trending & analysis, server capacity & threshold testing
  4. Identifies trends and opportunities to improve performance and resolve system problems.
  5. Makes recommendations concerning software, equipment, security and facilities.
  6. Provides technical engineering solutions and direction, performance tuning and technology updates, identifies opportunities for new technology deployments, assesses projected lifespan of existing and future technology.
  7. Prepares formal change implementation plans and monitors their implementation.
  8. Perform analysis & trending of data and resource use and escalates potential issues to senior members of the team.
  9. Maintains and audits all documentation as it relates to configuration, processes, service records, asset inventories, topologies, administration manuals, job instructions, support contacts etc. Maintains an awareness of current security threats, vulnerabilities, risks and associated technical countermeasures and security best practices.

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: HS Diploma/GED


Required Experience:

  • Three (3)years of experience performing system administration and engineering for one or more of the following systems red hat linux, UNIX, Windows, IBM, HDS, Citrix, Infrastructure as a service/ Cloud, remote access systems, and Virtualization technologies (Xen, Vmware, Microsoft Server).

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Experience: Four (4) or more years of experience performing system administration and engineering for one or more of the following systems red hat linux, UNIX, Windows, IBM, HDS, Citrix, Infrastructure as a service/ Cloud, remote access systems, and Virtualization technologies (Xen, Vmware, Microsoft Server).

 

Preferred Licenses/certificates/registrations: Certification within concentration.
