Job Summary

The Immunogenetics Clinical Laboratory is part of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Division of Genomics Diagnostics and the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine.  The Immunogenetics lab performs high-complexity, diagnostic testing, and supports the Solid Organ and Stem Cell Transplant Programs of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and its outreach clients.

Job Responsibilities

The Immunogenetics Clinical Lab focuses on the role of Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) molecules and the Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) in autoimmunity and transplantation.  We are interested in the detailed characterization of the MHC by high throughput DNA sequencing technologies and the identification of polymorphisms important for many HLA-associated diseases, compatibility, and rejection processes in transplantation.


The successful candidate will perform, analyze, and generate reports for high complexity laboratory tests, including

Antibody Screening & Identification by bead microarray

Crossmatching by Flow Cytometry and CDC

HLA Typing and Disease Association by NGS, SSP, and SSO

Engraftment Monitoring by STR analysis.


Will participate in competency and proficiency testing activities, in addition to quality assurance programs, laboratory preventative maintenance.

 

Will follow lab, departmental, and hospital policies and procedures regarding employee and patient safety.


Will be a team participant for the validation and implementation of new testing methodologies, along with and other quality improvement initiatives.

Will train others (as requested) on all testing methodologies and computer assisted analysis programs. 

Will share on-call coverage of nights, weekends, and holidays. 

Will interact and communicate effectively with other co-workers and the clinical programs.

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Bachelors of Science in Medical Technology or other science related fields.                                                                          

 

Required Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience; must demonstrate advanced technical skills inventory at a baseline level or higher.

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Additional Technical Requirements

  • Exhibits the ability to work with computer programs and computer controlled equipment.
  • Exhibits the ability to handle and interpret data, multitask, and maintains confidential material.
  • Exhibits good laboratory technique and safety practices.
  • Exhibits good communication, technical and organizational skills.
  • Experience and/or training in multiple laboratory sections and high complexity testing (advanced tech skill inventory).
  • Exhibits the ability interpret scientific literature & regulatory compliance and apply to laboratory policy & procedure improvement or development.
