Staff Accountant II - Research Accounting

Job Summary

         The Staff Accountant will have an active role in compliance, reporting and analysis.

 

The ideal candidate will be responsible for the following

         Time and Effort Certification
• Ensure Time and Effort reports are generated based on a predetermined schedule including weekly notifications to certifiers.
• Per Research Institute policy, follow up on outstanding reports taking the appropriate elevations as well as imposing system sanctions for non-compliance
• Liaison between Research Finance and Payroll and Human Resources
• Identify and oversee the process for Time and Effort variances.


         Affiliate Payroll
• Upload monthly affiliate payroll including retroactive adjustments into the Financial System
• Process monthly Practice Plan entries for affiliate payroll
• Monthly affiliate payroll reconciliations


         Labor Costing Allocations
• Daily review and approval of labor costing allocations to ensure compliance and Sponsor requirements
• Ensure salary cap calculations are correct and allocated appropriately
• Ensure labor cost share is allocated appropriately
• Review 90+ labor cost transfers for compliance and adherence to policy
• Provide support and serve as liaison for requests received for labor and time and effort

      Special projects. 
• Other duties and special projects as assigned. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Transaction Processing
    • Prepare and understand complex journal entries.
    • Journal entries are entered into the ERP system within 5 business days.
    • Review all posted entries into the ERP to ensure accuracy.
    • Analyze general ledger accounts; reconcile assigned accounts on a monthly basis.
    • Assist Staff Accountant I’s with issue resolution associated with journal entries.
  • Internal Control
    • Ensure accurate interfaces (accounts payable, payroll, billing, asset management, etc.).
    • Prepare monthly account reconciliations for assigned complex accounts within 10 business days.
    • Investigate and correct all variances uncovered during reconciliations.
    • Assist staff accountant I’s with issue resolution associated with reconciliations.
  • Annual Audit and Tax filings
    • Ensure a clean monthly, quarter and annual close.
    • Ensure a clean audit and tax process.
    • Work directly with external audit and tax professionals.
  • Excellent Customer Service
    • Ensure emails and phone calls are responded to within 1 business day.
    • Work professionally with other departments.
    • Assist operations with all accounting and finance needs, such as reporting or training.
  • Complete annual goals, special projects, and other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Bachelors in Accounting.

 

Required Experience: 3-5 years’ accounting experience, hospital preferred.

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Education: Masters or advanced certification

Additional Technical Requirements

  • Proficient in the use of Excel.
  • Strong analytical & computer skills.
