Job Summary

The Raymond G. Perelman Center for Cellular and Molecular Therapeutics (CCMT) is dedicated to the understanding, development and application of gene and related cell and nucleic acid therapies and the promotion of professional and public education in the field.  The CCMT fosters a multidisciplinary approach among researchers and scientists in search of cures for debilitating and life threatening disorders.  The Sr. Scientific Writer will perform scientific and grants writing functions to maximize support for research projects, Principal Investigators and professional staff in the CCMT.

Job Responsibilities

The Sr. Scientific Writer will:

  • Compose manuscripts, scientific reports, presentations, and other comprehensive materials using correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and syntax
  • Perform editing, formatting, and proofreading of own and others’ work in order to clearly and concisely provide accurate information
  • Work with Center Director and a diverse group of researchers who will define project parameters and provide source materials
  • Draft and edit original manuscripts being submitted for publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • Assess the necessary data and generate intricate scientific documents; develop those documents using any relevant length, style, and formatting parameters; apply any relevant feedback from experts to update the documents; and work with those experts during follow-up review-and-feedback rounds to help complete the documents
  • Work with co-editors and graphic artists on specific documents as they are finalized
  • Draft and use document content derived from literature searches
  • Construe literature data and make recommendations applicable to scientific periodicals and clinical and regulatory documents and policies
  • Compile information and data into a technical narrative and review information created from a variety of sources
  • Apply scientific principles to documents and materials for scientific and nonscientific audiences
  • Provide overall writing support for other projects and programs, as assigned
Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations
Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Technical Writing, English, or related field


Required Experience: Five (5) years of writing and editing experience

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Education: Advanced degree in Communications, Technical Writing, English, or related field


Preferred Experience:

  • Seven (7) years of writing and editing experience
  • Previous experience in research, healthcare or academic environment
Additional Technical Requirements
  • Advanced proficiency with word processing software (Microsoft Word)
  • Advanced proficiency with document management software (Adobe Acrobat)
  • Advanced knowledge of writing styles including research, scientific (AMA) and/or press (AP) styles
  • Intermediate knowledge of complex scientific. academic and medical topics
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels
