Job Summary

The Sr Director of Technology and Platform Services is the leader of engineering and operations in several areas including user experience and technology platforms.  This role is a key member of the senior management team of the Information Services Department (which consists of the senior portfolio leaders and group leaders). 

 

The Sr Director of Technology and Platform Services has operational responsibility for managing the key and emerging technology services at CHOP enterprise health system (Philadelphia and King of Prussia campus, all satellites, and remote facilities).

 

A key dependency is a close working relationship with other leaders to ensure complete alignment of all Technology service delivery at CHOP.  This role is a partnership with other technology services leaders and represents OneIS and OneTechnology services within design sessions, service delivery and other others.  Other key dependencies are to establish successful interactions with the leaders of Engineering, Security, Architecture, Cross-Functional & Testing, and Project Management Office. The Technology and Platform Services portfolio is a key dependency for the success of other portfolios such as the Business and Clinical Applications portfolios. The Director of Technology and Platform Services responsibilities include 1) strategic planning, 2) budget management and optimization, 3) resource management, 4) process participation and ownership, 5) standards management, and 6) operational oversight of the technology infrastructure.

 

In conjunction with the CIO and CTSO and other IS leaders, the Sr Director of Technology and Platform Services acts as a liaison between technology and business and clinical strategies to help achieve alignment of business and clinical strategies and technical capabilities.  Director ensures that the customers are engaged and are partners in technology and the quality of the service delivered meets the requirements of the clinical and business functions of CHOP.

Job Responsibilities

Operational Oversight

  • Direct the day-to-day operational responsibilities for the platform and user experience technologies.
  • Direct service design, engineering, planning, support and maintenance. 
  • Monitor performance of the technology services review and remediate its failures and drives solutions
  • Verify technology standards and best practices are maintained across the organization.
  • Verify technical problems are resolved in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Budget Management & Optimization

  •  Responsible for the budget of the platform and user experience areas with a focus on:
    • Establishing budget(s).
    • Managing costs.
    • Establishing productivity targets.
    • Managing to targets. 
    • Documenting variances
    • Financial Stewardship opportunity identification and  action plans

Resource Management

  • Establish a high-performing management team for platform technology teams
  • Coach, develop and mentor team members within and outside their organization.
  • Recruit and develop staff.
  • Prioritize and align resources.
  • In conjunction with the Director of IS Business Operations, responsible for managing the key vendors and contracts. 

Strategic Planning

  • Provide strategic and tactical direction.
  • Plan lifecycle of key platform services.  Engineering holistic solutions to meet the needs of CHOP.
  • Understand industry direction and position CHOP optimally.
  • Keep abreast of advance and changes in the field and when appropriate, adopt innovations that lead to improvement and increased efficiency of CHOP’s operations.
  • Plan jointly to deliver the technology   (within IS, includes Infrastructure, Security, Cross-Functional, Service Delivery portfolio, Business Applications, Clinical Applications, Bio Med).

Process Participation/Ownership

  • Establish requirements, document process, and manager user relationship in development process.
  • Adhere to Information Services policies and procedures (including incident, problem, and change management). 
  • Contribute to work plans involving Technology Services.
  • Contribute to communication strategies for the department.

Standards Management

  • Establish standards within services and platforms.
  • Enforce those standards.
  • Establish key metrics and performance indicators to measure service levels.
  • Measure service levels.
  • Manage key service providers to service levels and performance on delivered services.
  • Meet or exceed SLAs.

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Bachelors degree


Required Experience: Ten (10) years of enterprise technology experience in enterprise management and service delivery that included comprehensive experience with IT infrastructure, Engineering and IT support services delivery.

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Education: Masters degree in IS


Preferred Experience: Healthcare
                                                                                                                    
Preferred Licenses/certificates/registrations: Technology / Platform specific certifications, Process improvement certification.

Additional Technical Requirements

  • Knowledge and high proficiency in relevant technologies and platforms (such as but not limited to:  Microsoft, Citrix, Cisco, VMware, Cloud)
  • Demonstrated infrastructure, platform, operations and engineering life cycle knowledge and experience.
  • Proven experience in enterprise design, build, run team management and service delivery.
