Job Summary

The Senior Associate Director of Donor Relations – Principal and Planned Giving will serve as an integral member of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) Foundation team. They will work in partnership with colleagues across the Foundation to develop, organize, implement, and assess a comprehensive and strategic program for stewardship of donors giving and/or rated at the principal giving level ($5MM+), planned giving donors at all giving levels, and active and former members of the Foundation Board of Overseers. Additionally, they will strategically partner with relevant teams to develop the Chairman’s Circle and Lewis Society donor recognition programs. They will be part of a growing Donor Relations team working to design and execute comprehensive strategies for a best-in-class donor relations program.

This position will directly supervise one executive correspondence writer and will report directly to the Director, Donor Relations and Stewardship.

Job Responsibilities

  • In partnership with relevant teams, develop and implement comprehensive and strategic stewardship programs for donors giving and/or rated at the principal giving level; planned giving donors; and current and former members of the Foundation Board of Overseers 
  • In partnership with relevant teams, develop and act as the project manager for individualized engagement plans for donors or rated at the principal gifts level, including ensuring that plans are appropriately coded in the database and are implemented in a timely and effective manner, developing criteria for measuring plan success, tracking results with stablished goals, and advising leadership toward ongoing progress
  • Work in strategic partnership with teams across the Foundation on developing and implementing engagement strategies for the Chairman’s Circle and Lewis Societies, which recognize principal and planned giving donors, respectively
  • Work in strategic partnership with the Board Relations team to develop and implement engagement strategies for the Foundation Board of Overseers, and in particular the stewardship committee of the Board
  • Act as a strategic resource and thought partner with communications colleagues preparing highly customized stewardship pieces, including impact reports, for principal giving donors 
  • Provide support to the communications team by preparing template-based endowment and other stewardship reports for principal gifts donors
  • In partnership with the Campaign and Strategic Initiatives team, oversee and administer processes related to all donor recognition opportunities for principal giving donors, including but not limited to physical and virtual signage and donor listings 
  • Supervise the Executive Correspondence Writer

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Bachelors degree

Required Experience:

  • At least five (5) years of experience in donor relations and stewardship and/or frontline fundraising that includes at least one (1) year focused on engagement of the highest-level donors

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Experience: 

  • Experience working within a healthcare advancement setting
  • Supervisory experience

Additional Technical Requirements

  • Experience in planning, writing, editing, and producing acknowledgments, endowment reports, impact reports, and other stewardship communications
  • Comfort and experience with interacting with a broad range of constituents, including executives and other senior leaders 
  • Extensive, high-level writing, editing and proofreading skills; thorough knowledge of grammar and usage, AP Style
  • Self-motivated and self-directed with ability to work effectively as a member of a team and independently 
  • Knowledge of fund-raising principles
  • Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel and Outlook required
  • Knowledge of the unique factors impacting planned giving donors and their stewardship
  • Relationship builder who can communicate with both internal and external stakeholders to maintain positive, professional relationships and employ a strong sense of diplomacy
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with an ability to balance competing deadlines
  • Superior customer service skills
