Job Summary

The Office of the General Counsel ("OGC") of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia ("CHOP")  is hiring a Senior Legal Associate. You will work independently and in conjunction with lawyers and staff of Office of the General Counsel ("OGC") to provide legal and administrative services in an area of legal specialty.  As the Senior Legal Associate (paralegal preferred) you will be a proactive, creative and collaborative partner to the OGC team, delivering practical, high quality legal services, and developing and implementing effective and efficient mechanisms to do so.  As the Senior Legal Associate you will be expected to develop and demonstrate a substantial understanding of CHOP and its mission, vision and values and to apply that knowledge in performing job duties.

 

The Sr. Legal Associate will report to AVP & Chief Counsel.

Job Responsibilities

  • Drafts, reviews, revises, and finalizes certain corporate/transactional documents and related due diligence as necessary, including but not limited to agreements and corporate filings.  
  • Drafts and prepares other legal documents, reports and other materials.
  • Maintains corporate documents (e.g., bylaws, articles of incorporation) and assures required corporate  filings are completed for CHOP and its affiliates.
  • Oversees copyright and trademark processes and matters.
  • Researches and analyzes complex legal matters.
  • Investigates and synthesizes factual background of legal matters.
  • Educates CHOP stakeholders on certain legal matters.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as may be assigned.
  • Performs job duties independently, demonstrating: exceptional organizational, written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail; a strong ability to interface professionally and confidentially with persons inside and outside of the organization, to prioritize responsibilities and coordinate multiple activities at once, to quickly analyze and resolve specific problems, and to respond appropriately to urgent deadlines.
     

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least ten (10) years of relevant experience. 

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience working as a paralegal or in like role in a law firm or in-house legal setting 
  • Experience working in litigation and working with medical records preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Pennsylvania notary certification within six months of date of hire

Additional Technical Requirements

  • Excellent technical skills are required, including but not limited to proficiency in all Microsoft office programs including Word, Excel and PowerPoint and facility learning and quickly implementing office-related programs (e.g., travel reimbursement programs electronic medical record systems, billing programs, document management programs, matter management programs, e-discovery programs). 
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written skills.
