Job Summary

The Center for Data Driven Discovery in Biomedicine (D3b) is looking for a Lab Technician II who will participate in conducting wet lab experiments related to pediatric oncology research projects. The candidate will be responsible for cloning novel mutations identified in pediatric cancers, generation and maintenance of cell lines, molecular characterization using an array of assays, such as western blotting and soft agars. There will also be an opportunity to test preclinical target therapy drugs against specific mutations and make a translational impact. Ideal applicants should present strong understanding of basic cell and molecular biology, have interest in translational research, present strong work ethic and be both dedicated and highly motivated. Applicants must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and accuracy when executing job responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities

- Directly reports to supervising Scientist (Dr. Payal Jain) and Project Manager
- Clones pediatric cancer-associated mutations and generates heterologous cell models.
- Maintains cell and tissue cultures
- Executes independently the in vitro and in vivo experiments 
- Follows established protocols or procedures, develops standard operating procedures if needed
- Maintain detailed lab notes and records regarding all lab procedures performed.
- Help maintain reagents stock inventories and other reagent/freezer inventories
- Prepares data for publication or presentation at national/international symposia
- Attend regular team meetings
- Carefully follow laboratory safety procedures and perform experiments in compliance with research safety standards
- Train and manage work-study students as needed
- Attend training sessions relevant to job roles as needed

Hours
- Typical experiments can be concluded within 9am-5pm but flexibility is expected as work load can vary.

Job Responsibilities
  • Performs routine tests under the direction of principal investigator or supervisor
  • Performs research procedures on experimental samples as directed
  • Records and checks results for completeness and accuracy
  • Performs calculations and maintains appropriate log and lab notebooks
  • Performs tasks that require familiarity with fundamental techniques and equipment
  • Assists with planning specific research protocols and procedures
  • Maintains office, lab area, reagents, supplies and equipment
  • Cleans and performs routine maintenance on lab equipment
  • Coordinates schedules of tests & procedures
  • Attends courses, seminars, and lab meetings to expand knowledge of research and laboratory techniques
  • Records results, organizes data and maintains lab notebook in an organized manner
  • Conducts literary searches as directed
Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Associates Degree or active enrollment in a Bachelor’s Degree Program

 

Required Experience: Nine (9) months of laboratory experience

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Education: Bachelor’s Degree

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Eighteen (18) months of laboratory experience
  • Related internship experience.
