Job Summary

Dr. Kai Wang's research division is seeking  to fill a research technician position in human molecular genetics- the central focus of this role is the use of multiple next-generation sequencing technologies to study genetic mutations associated with human diseases.

The research Kai Wang, Ph.D. focuses on is the development of bioinformatics methods to improve our understanding of the genetic basis of human diseases, and the integration of electronic health records and genomic information to facilitate genomic medicine on scale. Current projects include the development of computational tools to call structural variants and DNA modifications from long-read sequencing data, the identification/prioritization of disease-relevant genetic mutations, the use of deep neural network to predict prognosis and optimize therapy for patients with cancer, the application of systems biology approaches on single-cell gene expression data, and the data mining on electronic health records to predict genetic syndromes and causal genes.

 

Preferred applicant:

A suitable candidate should have prior experience in genetics/genomics-related fields, such as molecular biology (DNA/RNA extraction, QC, qPCR, etc), molecular cloning, library preparation for sequencing, informatics software skills such as sequence analysis and primer design, and verbal/written skills to summarize results and presentations. Prior experience with genome editing and cell culture is strongly preferred. This position offers an excellent opportunity to learn and apply skills in human genomics and genetics, and can be authors in high-quality publications. Salary and position level are commensurate with candidate's prior experience and qualification.

Job Responsibilities
  • Independently performs advanced, complex research procedures on experimental samples
  • Formulates and performs complex lab experiments and analyzes reports the data including interpretation of methodologies
  • Performs advanced calculations and maintains appropriate log and lab notebooks
  • Plans and modifies research protocols and procedures with minimal direction from the principal investigator or supervisor
  • Assists in development & troubleshooting of new techniques and ideas
  • Prepares laboratory reagents, monitors and maintains laboratory inventory
  • Supervises, trains and mentors junior and new staff members
  • Determines work assignments, schedules and laboratory priorities
  • Presents & discusses work at weekly lab meetings and national symposia
  • Assists in writing of grants, journal articles, poster and oral presentations

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree

 

Required Experience: Two (2) years of laboratory experience

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Education: Bachelor’s Degree

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Three (3) years of laboratory experience
  • Previous supervisory experience.
Additional Technical Requirements
