Job Summary

The Raymond G. Perelman Center for Cellular and Molecular Therapeutics (CCMT) is dedicated to the understanding, development, and application of gene and related cell and nucleic acid therapies and the promotion of professional and public education in the field.  The CCMT fosters a multidisciplinary approach among researchers and scientists working to discover new gene and cell therapies in search of cures for debilitating and life threatening disorders.  The George Laboratory focuses on understanding the components of the blood coagulation system, how they interface with activated cells, and how disturbances in their function lead to bleeding and thrombosis. The Research Technician III is a vital member of the George laboratory staff and will help develop and test therapeutic modalities with a focus on gene therapy and similar approaches to mitigate bleeding and thrombosis disorders that are major causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide.


Participates in planned research projects by performing research protocols with minimal direction and guidance from the program director or senior scientists.  Possesses specialized education in the biological or chemical sciences; required to exercise moderate discretion and judgment in the execution and interpretation of experiments, and of data derived.

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs research procedures on experimental samples with minimal supervision
  • Formulates and performs complex lab experiments and analyzes & reports the data
  • Performs tasks that require knowledge of advanced techniques and equipment
  • Performs advanced calculations and maintains appropriate log books and lab notebooks
  • Assists with planning specific research protocols and procedures
  • Assists in development & troubleshooting of new techniques and ideas
  • May be required to modify scientific methods and protocols (in conjunction with PI)
  • Checks others results for completeness and accuracy
  • May be responsible for training and mentoring new staff
  • Assists in the preparing of grants journal articles, poster and oral presentations
  • May perform routine and non-routine tests / experiments as needed

Job Responsibilities (Continued)

  • Use of laboratory equipment including HPLC, FPLC, spectrophotometer and fluormeter
  • Molecular biology techniques including tissue culture and protein purification
  • Handling research mice including performing histological analyses of mouse tissues
  • Utilization of modern molecular methods including site directed mutagenesis, cloning, enzymatic kinetic assays, fluorescence spectroscopy, SDS-PAGE, ELISA and fluorescence anistrophy measurements
  • Actively engage in learning new techniques and contribute to process improvement.
  • Communicate clearly, work independently, perform tasks according to established protocols
  • Independently review and interpret relevant literature 
  • Ability to prioritize work, exercise discretion, multi-task and actively contribute to laboratory activities  

Required Education and Experience

Associate’s degree, 3+ years relevant laboratory experience beyond classroom / internship(s) experience required


Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Bachelor’s degree preferred


12 - 24 months relevant laboratory experience beyond classroom / internship(s) experience preferred


Additional Technical Requirements

12-24 months advanced laboratory experience

Computer literate in MAC and PC environments
