Job Summary

Contributes to the day-to-day operations and services of a core facility devoted to bringing to CHOP researchers the latest technologies and techniques in investigational drug quantitation. The research assistant will contribute to the Bioanalytical core facility of Center for Clinical Pharmacology, which will provide, but not be limited to, capabilities for investigational drug quantitation in biological fluids from both laboratory animal models and clinical trials. Assists in the development, validation and implementation of LC-MS/MS assays for analysis of clinical and non-clinical pharmacokinetic samples. Assists in the preparation of validation and other analytical reports, and SOPs. Perform bioanalytical testing of study samples using validated methods. Assists in trouble-shooting assays when problems arise. Good basic analytical lab operational skills and concepts (concentration units, pH, etc). Ability to work independently and as a team player in a methodical, organized and transparent manner. Ability to read and follow method or research protocols. Experience in biological sample handling. Working understanding of PPT, LLE, SPE and 96-well SPE techniques. Working and theoretical understanding of LC-MS/MS is preferred. Ensures compliance with and maintains required training in CHOP, safety and other departmental guidelines. Ensures that notebooks and other documentations are up-to-date as per departmental guidelines. Knowledge of FDA Bioanalytical guidance and GLP is required. Occasionally exerting up to 10 pounds of force and/or frequently exerting a small amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull and move objects. Activities include walking or standing to a significant degree and require sitting much of the time.

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs routine tests under the direction of principal investigator or supervisor
  • Performs research procedures on experimental samples as directed
  • Records and checks results for completeness and accuracy
  • Performs calculations and maintains appropriate log and lab notebooks
  • Performs tasks that require familiarity with fundamental techniques and equipment
  • Assists with planning specific research protocols and procedures
  • Maintains office, lab area, reagents, supplies and equipment
  • Cleans and performs routine maintenance on lab equipment
  • Coordinates schedules of tests & procedures
  • Attends courses, seminars, and lab meetings to expand knowledge of research and laboratory techniques
  • Records results, organizes data and maintains lab notebook in an organized manner
  • Conducts literary searches as directed

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Associates Degree or active enrollment in a Bachelor’s Degree Program

 

Required Experience: Nine (9) months of laboratory experience

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Education: Bachelor’s Degree

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Eighteen (18) months of laboratory experience
  • Related internship experience.
