Job Summary

The Center for Data Driven Discovery in Biomedicine (D3b) is looking for a Lab Technician II who will participate in the development and maintenance of cell lines and animal models derived mainly from brain tumor tissue. The candidate will be involved also in research projects related to molecular cell line characterization, preclinical tools and drug development. Ideal applicants should present strong understanding of basic cell biology, have interest in translational research, present strong work ethic and be both dedicated and highly motivated. Applicants must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and accuracy when executing job responsibilities.

 

 

The ideal candidate

- Directly responds to supervising Scientist and Project Manager
- Generates cell and tissue cultures directly from surgery or from frozen tissue following standardized procedures for general banking and approved scientific projects
- Maintains cell and tissue cultures
- Executes independently the in vitro and in vivo experiments 
- Follows established protocols or procedures, develops standard operating procedures if needed
- Coordinate and assist with postmortem tissue collection
- Enter and validate data associated with banked cell lines in laboratory information management system
- Maintain detailed records regarding cell culture maintenance for banking purposes
- Help maintain reagents stock inventories and other reagent/freezer inventories
- Prepares data for publication or presentation at national/international symposia
- Attend regular team meetings
- Provide weekly/monthly metrics on cell line development to project leadership
- Carefully follow laboratory safety procedures and perform experiments in compliance with research safety standards
- Train and manage work-study students as needed
- Attend training sessions relevant to job roles as needed

 

Flexibility is required. Sporadically sample delivery, processing as well as experiments may require late hours or weekend work.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs routine tests under the direction of principal investigator or supervisor
  • Performs research procedures on experimental samples as directed
  • Records and checks results for completeness and accuracy
  • Performs calculations and maintains appropriate log and lab notebooks
  • Performs tasks that require familiarity with fundamental techniques and equipment
  • Assists with planning specific research protocols and procedures
  • Maintains office, lab area, reagents, supplies and equipment
  • Cleans and performs routine maintenance on lab equipment
  • Coordinates schedules of tests & procedures
  • Attends courses, seminars, and lab meetings to expand knowledge of research and laboratory techniques
  • Records results, organizes data and maintains lab notebook in an organized manner
  • Conducts literary searches as directed

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Associates Degree or active enrollment in a Bachelor’s Degree Program

 

Required Experience: Nine (9) months of laboratory experience

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Education: Bachelor’s Degree

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Eighteen (18) months of laboratory experience
  • Related internship experience.

 

 

Additional Technical Requirements
