Job Summary

As a Specimen Research Tech in the center, you will participate in routine operational tasks involved in biobanking by following operational protocols and will exercise discretion and judgement in execution of assigned tasks. The impact of your work will be far-reaching and life-changing for every child, every time, everywhere.


The following are some of the main responsibilities for this position:


●    Performs routine operational procedures and coordinates specimen submissions under limited supervision such as prepare specimen kits, receiving specimens and managing specimen requests for scientific projects.

●    Manage and maintain specimen tracking data within various databases, ensuring completeness and accuracy.

●    Performs tasks that may require familiarity with fundamental lab techniques and equipment.

●    Assists with planning and implementing operational protocols and procedures.

●    Problem solves and improves operation procedures when necessary.

●    Reports project specimen information to manager/study team as needed, including metrics, issues concerning samples or supplies, communications with external sites. 

●    Quality Control inventory, specimen associations and output regularly.

●    Other duties as directed.

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs data entry for specimen tracking and clinical data entry as needed
  • Records and checks results for completeness and accuracy
  • Performs tasks that require familiarity with fundamental laboratory techniques and equipment
  • Performs tasks to order and supply external sites and pathology departments with supplies
  • Prepares shipments of specimens following research and shipping protocols
  • Assists with planning specific research protocols and procedures
  • Maintains office, lab area, reagents, supplies and equipment
  • Cleans and performs routine maintenance on lab equipment as needed
  • Coordinates with Biorepository Resource Center for scheduling time in lab
  • Attends courses, seminars, and lab meetings to expand knowledge of research and laboratory techniques

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Associates Degree or active enrollment in Bachelors Program

Required Experience: Nine (9) months of laboratory experience

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Education: Bachelor’s Degree


Preferred Experience:

  • Eighteen (18) months of laboratory experience
  • Related internship experience.


Additional Technical Requirements
