Job Summary

<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">This role will assist in the development and testing of research applications for analysis of three-dimensional medical images, potentially including machine learning and shape analysis.


<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Works under the mentorship of an established principal investigator to develop software to enable discoveries.  Encouraged to initiate and conducts independent development and experiments without direct supervision.  Will work on specified projects at the guidance of the principal investigator and collaborators. Collaborates and interacts with other researchers within the institution and at other institutions. Assists in the preparation of scientific publications and research grant proposals. Serves as resource person for colleagues and as a mentor for less experienced research personnel. 

Job Responsibilities
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Participates in creation and customization of medical image (echocardiogram, CT, MRI) processing applications using open-source platforms
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Investigates application of machine learning for segmentation and analysis of medical images
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Creates applications to customize clinical analysis workflows of medical images
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Trains technical staff, students, fellows & physicians in application of tools developed
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Assists in developing publications for peer reviewed, scientific journals

Required Education and Experience

<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Required Education:

  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field


<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Required Experience:

  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">One (1) year of software testing, developing or application experience
Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Preferred Education:

  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Master’s degree


<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Preferred Experience:

  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Two (2) years of software testing, developing or application experience
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Previous software development experience in a team environment
Additional Technical Requirements
  • Advanced proficiency programming in Python
  • Intermediate proficiency with collaborative software development tools
  • Basic proficiency programming experience in C/C++
  • Basic proficiency in using version control, Git, Github flow process
  • Familiar with DICOM standard
  • Works well with others in an interdisciplinary environment

Preferred Background:


  • Basic proficiency using and/or contributing to open-source image processing tools such at VTK, ITK and 3D Slicer
  • Basic proficiency in creating and training models using PyTorch, Keras, Tensorflow
  • Exposure to basic finite element analysis
  • Exposure to shape analysis
