Job Summary

A Research Postdoctoral position in the laboratory of David Frank, a laboratory in the Division of Cardiology at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, requires a highly motivated, trained, and experience scientist to work independently in a basic and translational science laboratory. The primary function of this role is to establish and execute projects in collaboration with the PI that study the mechanisms of cellular interactions of progenitor cells in cardiopulmonary development, homeostasis, and regeneration. In particular, we are interested in how cardiopulmonary progenitor cells shape development of the pulmonary vasculature and lung and how fetal reprogramming influences regeneration. The position is designed for the individual to complete a study for publication followed by independent studies that will shape their development into an independent investigator. The position will be engaged in experiments involving small animal models, cell culture and ex vivo organoid modeling, single cell technology, and advanced microscopy imaging and image processing. The secondary role of this position includes providing organizational support of the laboratory, participating in manuscript writing, and assisting in the establishment of collaborations with other laboratories.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Conduct independent scholarly research and develop new methods and protocols
  2. Participate in project planning, recording and evaluation of data
  3. Acquire technical, lab management and grant writing skills
  4. Participate in seminars, lectures, poster sessions and presentation at national meetings
  5. Supervise junior lab members
  6. Assist with other research projects

Job Responsibilities (Continued)

  • Design and performance of complex in vivo and in vitro experiments
  • Proficiency in cell fate analysis in cardiopulmonary biology
  • Assist in the organization of a research mouse colony
  • Assist in the organization of lab and training of other staff and trainees
  • Have or acquire proficiency in confocal imaging and image processing
  • Plan projects and help direct the broader goals of the research program
  • Contribute to manuscript and grant preparation and animal protocols
  • Ensure staff training in lab safety and adherence to all lab regulations
  • Assists in overall supervision of lab
  • Motivation to learn new technologies

Required Education and Experience

  • A terminal degree PhD, MD, DVM, etc.
  • According to the CMS (Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services) a copy of diploma or transcript is required as proof of academic achievement for all non-laboratory personnel performing non-waived POC testing

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic
