Job Summary

The Tan research group ( is interdisciplinary and highly collaborative, utilizing both experimental and computational approaches to study gene regulation in normal hematopoiesis and oncogenesis. We are seeking an enthusiastic candidate for a Research Assistant II position. The candidate will participates in a planned research project by performing research protocols. Works independently and self-directed while providing supervision and technical training to subordinates. Previous experience with molecular biology, next-generation sequencing technologies, tissue culture and cancer research is preferred.  Needs a specialized education in the biological or chemical sciences and is required to consistently exercise discretion and judgment in execution, interpretation of experiments, and of data derived.

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs lab tests which require the analysis of results and interpretation of methods
  • Performs research procedures on experimental samples as agreed with PI
  • Plans and develops specific research protocols and procedures
  • Develops & troubleshooting new techniques and ideas
  • Composes methods and sets-up protocols accurately under the direction of the program director or senior scientist, modifies methods and protocols when required
  • Formulates and performs complex lab experiments and analyzes & reports the data
  • Presents & discusses work at weekly lab meetings
  • Prepares laboratory reagents and monitors and maintains inventory
  • Performs calculations and maintains appropriate log books and lab notebooks
  • Maintains laboratory equipment, safety procedures and compliance records
  • Researches journal, white papers and other scientific publications for pertinent information
  • Prepares data for publication or presentation at national/international symposia
  • May be called upon to present at national symposia
  • Supervises junior members of laboratory.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree,  4-6 years scientifically relevant experience required


Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

  • Master’s degree preferred, 1-3 years scientifically relevant experience

Additional Technical Requirements

  • Proficient in various research and/or analytical techniques required
