Res Post Doc Fellow - Sengupta Lab

Philadelphia, PA, US, 19014

Job Summary

I am  looking for postdoctoral researcher(s) to join the team at our lab at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. I am a physician scientist and an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and we have many interesting projects at various stages of development, mostly centered around the circadian regulation of lung injury, inflammation and repair. Our work essentially involves a multi-disciplinary approach across the fields of immunology, circadian biology, pulmonology, virology and physiology. (occasionally including the nuances of the extremes of age). While no specific expertise is required, a strong background in immunology or virology or imaging or computational biology will all prove to be assets. I am happy to provide training in circadian biology. There will be many opportunities to participate in exciting cutting-edge science in our projects, collaborations and overall scientific environment at Penn/CHOP.

Potential candidates will be expected to start their mechanistic work, mostly within the purview of the existing projects but will be provided with close supervision initially and well-balanced autonomy later to shape and direct their projects based on their performance and interest. I am also happy to discuss and support newer projects related but not completely envisioned in our current plans, if well-reasoned and exciting!

Job Responsibilities

  1. Conduct independent scholarly research and develop new methods and protocols
  2. Participate in project planning, recording and evaluation of data
  3. Acquire technical, lab management and grant writing skills
  4. Participate in seminars, lectures, poster sessions and presentation at national meetings
  5. Supervise junior lab members
  6. Assist with other research projects

Job Responsibilities (Continued)

Since the focus of our research is circadian biology, (for those not aware of this kind of experimental designs)—some experiments will require work at times outside of the usual hours of operation (9am-5pm) or over the weekends.  Whenever such hours are needed, adjustments to the weekday hours will be made. Overall working hours and schedule are flexible based on the experimental needs. I am are proud of our amazing teamwork and collaborations that makes science so much fun! Potential candidates should know that they will also have ample opportunities for disseminating work both locally and internationally. Further through the UPenn/CHOP campus, you will have unparalleled access to lectures, seminar and workshops on a wide array of scientific topics.

The translational nature of the project would be a great opportunity for those seeking to build a career in biomedical research or medicine. CHOP/Penn offers variety of professional development opportunities for all post docs, that I whole heartedly support and recommend. Several T32 opportunities are also available. I customize my mentoring to the individuals needs and goals and am committed to supporting your professional journeys through exciting science and lasting comradery!
