Job Summary


A Postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Thomas De Raedt. The De Raedt lab aims to develop novel successful therapies, including immunotherapy, for children with brain tumors by dissecting the fundamental processes of tumor biology and by developing relevant mouse models. We specifically focus on how alterations in RAS pathway signaling, caused by loss of NF1, cooperates with mutations in epigenetic drivers. Our laboratory uses a range of molecular and cellular biological techniques together with mouse models to elucidate the molecular basis of cancer. Importantly, whenever possible we extend and translate these findings and develop novel therapies. We are located in one of the top children's hospitals in the US, hence successful findings can be quickly translated to the clinic. The successful candidate will join our growing team to drive one of several projects currently under development in the lab. (S)he will participate in the writing of project plans, publications and contribute to managing project efforts, additionally (S)he may help to supervise and mentor research members (students and/or technicians). Job Responsibilities

  1. Conduct independent scholarly research and develop new methods and protocols
  2. Participate in project planning, recording and evaluation of data
  3. Acquire technical, lab management and grant writing skills
  4. Participate in seminars, lectures, poster sessions and presentation at national meetings
  5. Supervise junior lab members
  6. Assist with other research projects

Job Responsibilities (Continued)

  • Independently perform complex experiments including
  • Troubleshoot issues at each stage of the project; Document, compile and analyze experimental data.
  • Interact with computational biologists and statisticians for more sophisticated analyses
  • Work with members of the lab, and with scientists from other laboratories, on collaborative projects
  • Provide scientific and technical guidance to other members of the laboratory
  • All other duties, as assigned
  • Reports project results to the team, prepares results for presentation at meetings, and participates in grant and manuscript writing.

Required Education and Experience

  • A terminal degree PhD, MD, DVM, etc.
  • According to the CMS (Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services) a copy of diploma or transcript is required as proof of academic achievement for all non-laboratory personnel performing non-waived POC testing

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Ph.D. (or equivalent experience) in cancer biology, cell biology or related field; minimum of 2-3 years hands-on experience; must be comfortable with high volume complex data, experimental designs, and familiarity and/or willingness to work with mouse models, familiarity with genomic analysis and/or immunotherapy a plus; excellent communication and organizational skills.

Additional Technical Requirements

  • Experience or willingness to work with mouse models. Experience with survival surgery are a plus.
  • Must have the ability to interact with an interdisciplinary group including disease area biologists, chemists, data analysts, laboratory biologists, and computer scientists.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal and organizational skills required, together with a “can-do” attitude and enthusiasm for working in a team environment.
