Shift: Days

Employment Status: Regular - Full Time

Job Summary

Highly qualified applicants are sought for the position of Postdoctoral Fellow at CHOP. The position involves independent research on computational image analysis in the context of quantitative analysis of pediatric cardiac ultrasound imaging. Specific aspects of this project include:

  • Research on automated segmentation and quantification of pediatric cardiac valves using 3D echocardiogram data
  • Creation of algorithms to leverage substantial existing detailed cardiac and valves atlases for the segmentation of in vivo imaging data
  • Development of novel object-centric computational models for shape analysis, shape prior guided segmentation, and mechanical assessment.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or an equivalent degree (or expect to defend in the near future); an excellent background in mathematics and computational sciences; and a strong track record of independent research in medical image analysis, computer vision, or a related field. Applicants must have publications in the major computational image analysis journals (e.g., Neuroimage, MedIA, IJCV, TMI, PAMI) and/or conferences (MICCAI, IPMI, IJCV, CVPR, etc.). Applicants with expertise in the following areas are particularly encouraged to apply:

    • Automated image segmentation, and analysis, especially those based on machine learning
    • Deformable models and model-based segmentation;
    • Machine learning and statistical methods for image-based inference;
    • Python and C++ programming, particularly using the Insight Toolkit (ITK) and Visualization Toolkit (VTK)
    • Structural assessment of cardiac valve mechanics by FEM and other methods

The group is involved in many exciting biomedical imaging projects, including the development of novel analysis methodologies; application of state-of-the-art techniques to clinical studies; and translational research. The Fellow will be supported by a lab consisting of several research assistants as well as an experienced masters level developer/research scientist. This environment will allow the Fellow to focus on image analysis and not creation on obtaining data, creating atlases, or coding software infrastructure.  The Jolley Lab is deeply committed to the principles of open science, and is a leader in development and dissemination of open-source pediatric cardiac image analysis applications (SlicerHeart, 3D Slicer). They collaborate with numerous labs locally, throughout the country, and abroad, as part of these endeavors including the Penn Image Computing and Science Lab, The Laboratory for Percutaneous Surgery (Canada), the Surgical Planning Laboratory (Boston), and Kitware Inc.

CHOP is located in Philadelphia, a vibrant city that offers many professional and cultural opportunities. They foster a friendly, non-competitive, collaborative environment where each individual member of the laboratory is able to thrive, while also effectively contributing to the collaboration’s overall programmatic aims. Trainees are strongly encouraged to form additional collaborations, seek pilot grant funding, contribute to major grant applications, and pursue independent research.

The Children’s hospital of Philadelphia is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer. Women and minority candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Please submit curriculum vitae, a brief statement of research interests, and names of three references to jolleym@email.chop.edu
