Job Summary

We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow with experience and expertise in analyzing large datasets and health record data, with an interest in further training in public health and health policy research. The fellow will join the Neuroscience of Driving (NoD) Lab at the Center for Injury Research and Prevention, a Center of Emphasis at CHOP, in collaboration with Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania. This fellow will be fully integrated into an exciting multidisciplinary team of experts in pediatrics, psychology, urban planning, cognitive neuroscience, data science, epidemiology, statistics, adolescent risk, and developmental psychology. This team conducts cutting-edge research focused on reducing the leading cause of injury in adolescents: motor vehicle crashes. At a policy level, the fellow will be intimately involved in and lead translational/applied research that directly informs changes in young driver policies and adolescent preventative care. At a foundational science level, the fellow will have the opportunity to advance the science of young driver crash risk.

This fellowship will be centered around the novel implementation of a unique virtual driving assessment (VDA) across the CHOP primary care network as part of adolescent care. A validated tool that provides personalized feedback on driving skill performance, the VDA is already part of the workflow in ten pediatric practices and has been administered to over 1,500 adolescent patients whose performance data has been linked to their electronic health record. In addition to the VDA-clinical database, the postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to analyze an existing large dataset of Ohio state licensing, crash, and driving performance data for over 30,000 drivers, uniquely available to the NoD team. The fellow will gain exposure to primary data collection in a clinic setting and multiple novel data types (e.g., eye tracking and driving metrics), multi-dimensional large longitudinal datasets, and analysis of electronic health data. 
We welcome applicants from a variety of backgrounds including (but not limited to): health policy, biostatistics, psychology, data science, epidemiology. The fellow will work with the PIs on multiple projects that have clinical and public health policy implications, as well as design their own studies. It is expected that the fellow will apply for additional funding during the fellowship. The Center and PIs have a strong track record of mentoring junior investigators and fostering academic professional development. The length of the fellowship will last a minimum of one year and may be renewed for up to a total of 3 years, contingent upon available funding.

  • A terminal degree PhD, MD, DVM, etc.
  • According to the CMS (Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services) a copy of diploma or transcript is required as proof of academic achievement for all non-laboratory personnel performing non-waived POC testing
