Job Summary

<span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">A postdoctoral position in statistical genetics and genomics is available in the Department of Genetics at the University of Pennsylvania and the Department of Biomedical and Health Informatics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to work on development and application of methods for analysis of human GWAS, genome sequence, and polygenic risk scores in the Almasy Lab. We are seeking to understand variation in risk of common complex disorders and related quantitative risk factors by localizing, identifying and characterizing pertinent genes and genetic variants and understanding their interactions with each other and with the environment. We also develop statistical genetic tools, designing novel analytical approaches and testing them on real and simulated data sets to evaluate their performance and compare them to existing methods. There are a variety of ongoing projects in the lab; the focus of this position will be on a collaborative translational research project studying fibrosis in children with congenital heart disease.

<span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Candidates should have strong quantitative and computational skills and a background in computational biology, genetics, biostatistics or a related field. The ideal candidate will have experience with hands-on data analysis for genetic studies and facility with R or other similar scripting environments. Excellent communication and writing skills are required.

  • A terminal degree PhD, MD, DVM, etc.
  • According to the CMS (Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services) a copy of diploma or transcript is required as proof of academic achievement for all non-laboratory personnel performing non-waived POC testing
  • <span style="font-family:"Helvetica",sans-serif">Excellent communication and writing skills are required.
