Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse III - Cardiothoracic Surgery safely delivers care as a competent-to-proficient practitioner of nursing. The Nurse III, at this level, demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems —specializing in cardiothoracic surgery. In addition, the nurse demonstrates clinical leadership skills by contributing to standards of care and unit goals. The nurse serves as a role model for other staff and a preceptor for new employees.  He/she participates in endeavors to increase knowledge.                                                                                                                                                               

Job Responsibilities

  • Competently scrubs on complex congenital heart cases.
  • Makes daily staffing assignments.
  • Participates in collection of specimens for clinical research projects. Identifies research projects that influence nursing practice in the Cardiac OR.        
  • Provides orientation for new staff.
  • Develops systems that promote efficient and cost effective care and quality

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations

Registered Nursing License in the State of New Jersey or within 6 months of placement into position.

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Nursing Diploma


Required Experience: At least one (1) year of previous RN experience.

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Education:  BSN


Preferred Experience:  Prior pediatric or prior experience in area of specialty. 

Active membership in a professional nursing organization.


Preferred Licenses/certificates/registrations:                                                                                     

Pennsylvania and New Jersey CNOR

Additional Technical Requirements

  • Strong scrubbing and circulating skills.

  • Strong critical thinking skills.
