Job Summary

The Division of Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine is committed to promoting and conducting cutting-edge research to address fundamental problems impacting child lung health. The Scientist I will advise and consult with investigators and research staff in the Division of Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine about optimal strategies to achieve their research goals. This will include literature reviews, development of data collection tools, assisting with data collection, management, and analyses, contributing to study design, development of materials, recruitment efforts, database design, coding, querying, and analysis, providing qualitative methods support and related research software support, developing training curriculum in qualitative methods to staff of all levels, writing and presenting abstracts for academic conferences, and contributing to manuscript development for major academic journals.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conducts research of significant scientific value in the basic and/or translational science area(s) relevant to their practice specialty.
  • Participates in the design, planning and conduct of one or more experiments.
  • Trains technical staff, students, fellows & physicians in lab procedures.
  • Monitors daily resource allocations and day-to-day lab personnel activities.
  • Composes/Assists in developing publications for peer reviewed, scientific, quality and management, Journals.
  • Assists with the submission of applications for grants/contracts for funding of research projects.
  • Collaborates with researchers, external agencies and institutions to develop cooperative research initiatives.
  • Responsible for appropriate use of research funds.
  • May supervise technical staff and students.
  • May participate in educational programs and teaching assignments.

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Master's Degree

Preferred Education: 

  • Doctorate with two (2) years or more of Post-Doctoral fellowship or scientifically relevant experience 
  • Master's Degree with six (6) or more years of scientifically relevant experience

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Experience:

  • At least two (2) years of scientifically relevant post-fellowship experience
  • Post-Doctoral fellowship

Additional Technical Requirements

  • 100% of effort is funded by Principal Investigator(s) grants

  • Scientific/intellectual contributions characterized by the unique & autonomous creativity
