Job Summary

The Center for Autism Research (CAR) is conducting a wide range of studies seeking to identify the causes of ASD, and to explore effective interventions and other supports for families throughout the region affected by ASD. We are seeking a full-time Psychometrist to work on a study of individuals suspected of having or diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder, as well as ADHD, anxiety disorder, and depression and to support outreach to families and community members.  We are seeking a candidate who has completed master’s level graduate training in clinical psychology or school psychology, and prior coursework in psychological and psycho-educational test administration and test construction. Applicants should have prior experience working with school-aged children.  The ideal candidate will have at least one year of experience in child assessment, with substantial experience administering standardized measures, such as the Differential Abilities Scales and the Wechsler Scales.   A purely behavioral or BCBA background is not sufficient for this position given the standardized testing and background coursework necessary. 

Ideal candidates will possess an eagerness to learn new assessment and experimental measures, excellent written and oral communication skills to interact with staff, parents, and children in order to communicate testing results to caregivers, and the ability to efficiently complete testing reports.

Job Responsibilities

  • At the direction and under the supervision of a licensed psychologist, functions relatively autonomously in administering, scoring, and compiling the results of batteries of neuropsychological, psychological and achievement tests and contributes to the documentation of testing encounters.   In addition, scores tests administered by psychologists and enters test data in forms to be included with evaluation reports.
  • Provides a written summary of the patient’s behavior during testing, including any interactions with the patient’s parents or peers that may be observed incidentally.   Demonstrates awareness of ethical considerations and potential clinical issues that may arise during patient contacts and appropriately seeks supervision from licensed provider when situations arise.
  • Provides explanations of the assessment process to patients, family members, other professionals, and administrative staff and enlists their cooperation and assistance when necessary.
  • Monitors the supply of materials and coordinates the ordering of tests needed; provides routine care and preventive maintenance of equipment inventory and supplies.
  • Responsibility for monitoring their work with particular attention to accuracy, completeness, and timeliness. Helps to recruit, on board and train junior psychometrists, scoring clerks, and other trainees assigned to the service. Training includes the administration, scoring, and safe-keeping of psychological, neuropsychological, personality and academic test instruments, as well as clinical skills such as rapport building and appropriate management of difficult or uncooperative patients.
  • Administer, score, document and compile the results of neuropsychological, psychological, academic and achievement tests.
  • Summarize patient behavior during testing, including any patient interactions.
  • Collaborate and provide explanations of the assessment process to stakeholders, including patients, family members, related professionals, and internal staff.
  • Conduct routine care and preventive maintenance of equipment.

  • Coordinate tests and monitor the supply of materials.
  • Identify and escalate potential ethical considerations and clinical issues.
  • Help to recruit, and on-board psychometrists, scoring clerks, and other trainees.
  • Train staff in tests including the related soft-skills, administration, scoring, safe-keeping and instrumentation.
  • Oversee neuropsychology scoring clerk(s) and audit scoring results.
  • Provide administrative support including contacting stakeholders and data entry.
  • Participate in related initiatives and quality improvement projects.

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: 

  • Masters Degree

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Education:

  • Master’s Degree in Psychology, Mathematics, Statistics or related field of study

 

Preferred Experience:

  • At least Two (2) years of Psychometrist experience

 

Preferred Licenses/certificates/registrations:

  • Psychometrist Certification upon hire
