Job Summary

The Advanced Practice Immersion Program will begin in February 2023 offering two tracks: ICU and Inpatient Medical/Surgical. Immersion Fellows within the ICU track will have opportunities within PICU, CICU, Medical NICU, and Surgical NICU. Immersion Fellows within the Medical/Surgical track will have opportunities across our inpatient medical and surgical teams.


Under the direction/supervision of a collaborative physician and practicing Advanced Practice Provider (APP), the APP Clinical Immersion Fellow - Nurse Practitioner is a trainee in an acute care setting. The APP Clinical Immersion program is a program that provides mentoring, didactic teaching, simulation skills training, and experience to prepare the APP Front Line Ordering Clinician (FLOC) Immersion Fellow to become a competent APP. Throughout the program, the APP Clinical Immersion Fellow will become responsible for the direct care and follow up of a population of patients that match his/her skill set through the designated curriculum and timelines. The components of the role include education, clinical practice, consultation, and professional development.

Job Responsibilities

Under the direct guidance and supervision of the Attending Physician and/or Credentialed APP:

  • Participates in the APP Clinical Immersion Fellowship program educational curriculum. Completes post-tests and evaluations as a measure of competence. Participates in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate educational offerings.
  • As a part of the learning process, will utilize advanced assessment skills to support the management of a cohort of patients. Performs and documents daily assessments. Collects and analyzes data and formulates a family-centered plan of care. Evaluates and monitors the effectiveness of the prescribed treatment plan. As a trainee, works collaboratively to communicate the plan of care and potential changes to this plan to the supervising physician and assigned Advanced Practice Provider.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient safety by speaking up about safety issues and changing practices to enhance safety. Shares errors or potential errors through system reporting mechanisms. Demonstrates shared accountability for safe practice.

Required Education and Experience

Required Education:  Master's Degree in Nurse Practitioner

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations:

  • Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) from the Pennsylvania State Board of Licensing
  • Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) (Pennsylvania) from the Pennsylvania State Board of Licensing
  • Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care (CPNP-AC) from the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB), or
  • Certified Pediatric Nurse - CPN from the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB)    
  • Primary Care Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner – CPNP-PC from the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) 

Additional Technical Requirements

  • Ability to work in a team setting with multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to use computer and electronic medical records effectively.
