Job Summary

The EEG Technician performs all EEG, Ambulatory, LTM, and magnoelectroencephalography studies for the hospital.  He/she requires supervisory oversight.  The technician rotates beeper coverage, working weekends and holidays for the department.  Upon successful completion of orientation, competency assessment and demonstration of the ability to function independently in both the EEG lab and the EMU, as well as, successful credentialing as a R-EEG, the R-I technician will automatically be promoted to the R-K level.

Job Responsibilities

1. Performs routine EEGs using paste and obtains the highest quality data.                                                   

  • Learns EEG monitoring (two to three months).
  • Performs EEG monitoring independently (after orientation).
  • Gives instructions to families.
  • Gathers patient information:
    • History.
    • Assessment.
      • Notifies supervisor of patient issues (seizures).
      • Teaches students.
      • Labels abnormalities, gives interpretations, and sends to the server.
      • Documents data.
      • Transcribes information to record.
      • Prepares patient and family for study.

2. Performs ambulatory and video telemetry studies with collodion or paste, as appropriate.

After six to eight months:

  • Learns to perform ambulatory studies.
  • Learns to interpret data.
  • Learns to perform telemetry studies:
    • Video.
    • WADA.
       

3. Performs QA and maintenance procedures, as appropriate.                                                                                  

  • Troubleshoots with supervision.
  • Sends Master’s copy to server.
  • Uses IDX for:
    • Ordering.
    • Billing.

 

4. Maintains a flexible schedule at all times.

  • Is available on-call.
  • Provides daily flexible rotating schedule/weekend support.

ABRET Registered for EEG Technology. ABRET registry must be obtained within eighteen (18) months of date of hire.
Required Education and Experience

Required Education: High School/GED

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Education: Bachelors

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Graduate of an accredited EEG Technology program
  • Prior hospital experience
Additional Technical Requirements
  • Ability to handle mildly to severely brain-damaged children.
  • Mechanical ability and aptitude.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work under stress.
  • Ability to be self-motivated.
  • Ability to teach in an organized and effective manner.
  • Ability to make decisions in stressful situations.
  • Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
