Job Summary


The Insurance Coordinator is responsible for ensuring all required information for all patient visits is obtained prior to the date of service.  This includes but is not limited to authorizations, referrals, pre-certifications, etc. for all physician visits as well as ancillary testing and procedures.

 

Job Responsibilities
  • Obtain initial, surgery and follow-up authorizations for all patients
  • Obtain insurance authorization for all patients
  • Obtain authorizations from third party companies for Radiology services including out of cap services.
  • Partners with Single Case Agreement Department to facilitate authorizations
  • Functions as a Financial Counselor by educating families and clinical team regarding insurance coverage plans including any insurance problems or restrictions, ensuring that insurance information is clearly relayed to and understood by family and/or responsible party and explaining any potential out of pocket expenses.
  • Create and/or update patient record by verifying demographic, insurance information, or proper study identification in the registration system
  • Ensure specific registration fields are accurately input into Fetal Force, including but not limited to visit notes, referral/authorization numbers, eligibility review, proper payer plan entries for research and standard-of-care visits.
  • Verify coverage through Navinet/Passport, etc. and pull appropriate referrals.
  • Educates providers, outpatient coordinators and families on insurance issues.
  • Creates templates with correct CPT Codes for specific services for Single Case Agreement 
  • Coordinate & communicate self-pay patients in applying to FHCP.
  • Provide documentation in Guarantor’s Notes in Epic
Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations
Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Associate’s

 

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of three to five years related healthcare registration, billing and/or reimbursement experience.
  • Background in medical terminology
  • Medical Insurance Background
Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

 

Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree
 

Preferred Experience: Resource scheduling experience preferred (e.g. ancillary testing). orthopedics experience

Additional Technical Requirements
  • Advanced insurance authorization and registration techniques required.
  • Ability to provide training to staff in complexity of Insurance Authorization.
  • High level of interpersonal skills with excellent customer service and responsiveness.
  • Ability to prioritize and work on several projects at once while maintaining communication with all invested parties.
  • Ability to work with stressful situations Ability to function efficiently and professionally with minimum of supervision.
  • Ability to quickly learn new procedures.
  • Strong computer skills. Ability to juggle multiple insurance issues.
  • Website Insurance Training (Navinet, Passport).
  • EPIC training & testing (Prelude/Cadence).
  • Registration Essentials.
