Job Summary

The Information Analyst will extract and transform data from a variety of clinical and non-clinical, internal and external data sources to enable research and quality improvement initiatives leading to research across a rapidly evolving academic research program. The Analyst will serve as team expert in data validation, loading, and structures.  Additionally, the Analyst will transform and manipulate data using a variety of formatting and/or analysis languages such as SQL, Perl, Python, R and Java.  The Information Analyst will exercise careful attention to details of the underlying data models which may result in large schema changes or mapping, taking into account the sensitivity, size, and complexity of the data

Job Responsibilities

Data storage & maintenance

  • Management & updating data sets
  • Cleaning data sets
  • Detect anomalies in the data and seek resolution by consulting with research and data management teams
  • Creating and updating all related metadata documentation and SOPs for above
  • Maintain data dictionary
  • Create & maintain data registry
  • In collaboration with Arcus

Abstract data from sources and prepare useable datasets for research questions

  • This may include:
  • Linking 
  • Deriving variables of interest
  • Validation
  • Visualization
  • Describe data sets
  • Develop report-based systems by writing reusable code or customizing 3rd party systems
  • Actively innovate on systems by developing code base and expertise

Conduct analyses prescribed by research team

  • Descriptive statistics
  • Inferential statistics
  • Archive all code to perform analyses

Serve as purveyor of statistical analysis plan

  • Maintain roles, deliverables, and timelines for team members working on data
  • Record progress & deviations

Report-outs

  • Update reports for research team, for Ohio
  • Reports describing analyses output
  • Contribute to drafting of manuscripts

Communication

  • Communication within NoD team and with other data teams re: data, including
  • Arcus team (Example: Identify portions of data reporting & other services that can be further developed/coded to maximize efficiency)
  • Diagnostic Driving team
  • Other CHOP & Penn groups, as needed

Project management

  • Maintain Asana
  • Facilitate meetings
  • Record & distribute minutes, action items, meeting follow-up

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree 

 

Required Experience: At least one (1) year of data extraction / manipulation experience, preferably in a healthcare environment

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Education: Two (2) or more years of data extraction/manipulation experience, preferably in a healthcare environment

Preferred Experience:

  • Statistical analysis training via formal education in data science, epidemiology, or other relevant experience
  • Experience with multi-faceted data set management and documentation
  • Experience with data linking/merging, cleaning, and maintenance
Additional Technical Requirements

Technical Requirements

  • Must be able to efficiently learn a complex data model and apply methods to achieve interpretable information for research activities & analyses
  • Situational awareness concerning data interpretation, quality, and integrity is essential
  • Must exhibit good oral and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of relational database application development, including stored procedures, SQL, data definition language, basic performance tuning and query optimization
  • Working knowledge of SQL and one or more of the following: Perl, Python, R and Java

Information Security Requirements

  • Understand and comply with all enterprise and IS departmental information security policies, procedures and standards
  • Support all compliance activities related to state, federal regulatory requirements, healthcare accreditation standards, and all other applicable regulations that govern the use and disclosure of patient, financial, or other confidential information
