Job Summary

CHOP is looking for a talented network engineering professional to join our Core Infrastructure Engineering team. Primary duties include network design, ensuring standards and best practices are maintained, acting as a point of escalation for the network operations group, helping develop long term strategy, and mentoring junior network engineers.

Job Responsibilities

A Principal Network Engineer also:

1.    Leads teams that plans, forecasts and implements new network technologies of high complexity.
2.    Participates in network architecture design and engineering.
3.    Evaluates new products and develops technical standards.
4.    Participates in on-call rotation (occasional). 
5.    Performs troubleshooting procedures and designs resolution scripts.
6.    Leads enterprise-wide assignments.
7.    Works on projects/issues of high complexity that require in-depth knowledge across multiple technical areas and business segments.
8.    Maintains and increases knowledge of CHOP IS network systems.
9.    Increases knowledge of industry trends, future technologies and client issues that may impact network strategies and direction.
10.    Coaches and mentors Level I and Level II, and Level III staff.
11.    Serves as expert for management task forces and committees.
12.    Participates and provides feedback to improve CHOP corporate and IS processes including, but not limited to, work flow, project management, and time accounts.

Required Education and Experience

1.    Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. The equivalent in related work experience and self study may be substituted.
2.    7-10 years experience in Data Networking and TCP/IP Protocols.
3.    Seven or more years of experience in networks, LAN/WAN or management information systems.
4.    Expert design experience pertaining to IP data/voice/video solutions.
5.    Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with team members, management, customers and support personnel.
6.    Strong ability to analyze and solve complex problems using analytical and creative problem-solving skills for design, creation and testing of networks.
7.    Extensive knowledge and experience understanding industry best practices on network architecture, engineering and experience in robust network, product/service and system design and implementation strategies.

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Professional certifications such as CISSP, CCNA, CCNP, CCIE etc. are a plus.

Additional Technical Requirements

1.    Extensive knowledge and experience in wide range of technologies including routing and switching design and architecture.
2.    Solid experience and knowledge of Data Center and high availability environments (HSRP, VRRP) and experience working in a multi-vendor network would be helpful.
3.    Expert level knowledge of switching, including but not limited to:  802.xx, Gigabit Ethernet, Vlan/Trunking (802.1q), Etherchannel, Spanning Tree (STP), HSRP, VRRP.  
4.    Solid knowledge of IPv4 routing protocols (OSPF, BGP), QoS and rate limiting, IP addressing and subnetting, segmentation, Ethernet standards and 10GigE Ethernet technology.
5.    Solid experience with voice/video/data convergence technology.
6.    Cisco ASA, ACS, ISE, and Cisco unified wireless network (CUWN) experience desired.
7.    Expert knowledge of network security systems and protocols including firewalls, Radius and TACACS+, IPSEC and IKE, SSH, etc.
8.    Knowledge in ancillary technologies used to support enterprise network monitoring and management such as fault/performance management and metric gathering tools/technology (SNMP, Netflow), packet capturing tools, and automation tools.
9.    Experience with, and strategic view of, building and datacenter design
10.    Experience with collaboration and edge devices
11.    Cisco wireless
12.    Visio skills are a plus


Information Security Requirements 

1. Understand and comply with all enterprise and IS departmental information security policies, procedures and standards.
2. Support the integration of information security in the development, design, and implementation of Hospital Technology Resources that process, transmit, or store CHOP information.
3. Support all compliance activities related to state, federal regulatory requirements, healthcare accreditation standards, and all other applicable regulations that govern the use and disclosure of patient, financial, or other confidential information.
