Job Summary
  1. Leads teams that plans, forecasts and implements new network technologies of high complexity.
  2. Participates in network architecture design and engineering.
  3. Evaluates new products and develops technical standards.
  4. Participates in enterprise-wide on-call rotation.
  5. Performs troubleshooting procedures and designs resolution scripts.
  6. Leads enterprise-wide assignments.
  7. Works on projects/issues of high complexity that require in-depth knowledge across multiple technical areas and business segments.
  8. Maintains and increases knowledge of CHOP IS network systems.
  9. Increases knowledge of industry trends, future technologies and client issues that may impact network strategies and direction.
  10. Coaches and mentors Level I and Level II staff.
  11. Serves as expert for management task forces and committees.
  12. Participates and provides feed back to improve CHOP corporate and IS processes including, but not limited to, work flow, project management, time accounts, and employee reviews.
Job Responsibilities

A Network Engineer III is a senior contributor with similar responsibilities as the Network Engineer II, but with a greater degree of complexity.  A Network Engineer III may be involved in some leadership activities.  A Network Engineer III also:

  1. Is expected to maintain expertise in the latest networking technologies and develop standardized solutions and best practices for network design and configurations.
  2. Contributes to the analysis and design for current and emerging technologies for deployment across the enterprise, including but not limited to layer 2\3 LAN switching, routing technologies.
  3. Performs network architecture reviews and develops detailed engineering design and deployment plans.
  4. Provides documentation to support development, implementation and training along with presenting to technical and non- technical audiences.
  5. Provides high-level support and rapid resolution to complex network problems.  Demonstrates ability to use network analysis tools and apply industry standard best practices approach to support issues.
  6. Provides mentoring for junior engineers and participate in rotating on call responsibilities.
  7. Participates in cross-functional meetings in support of projects and operational duties.
  8. Works with LAN\WAN hardware including patch panels, Fiber Optics, Cat5e and Cat 6 wiring, DTE and DCE devices.
  9. Works with the Service Desk using the supporting ticketing system to resolve customer incidents and tasks.
  10. Participates in rotating on-call responsibilities.
  11. Is able to address and resolve moderately complex network problems without direct supervision.
  12. Proactively plans for future capacity needs and executes related action plans.
  13. Contributes to the preparation for security compliance (HIPPA, PCI).
Required Education and Experience

1. Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. The equivalent in related work experience and self study may be substituted.
2. 4-8 years experience in Data Networking and TCP/IP Protocols.
3. Experience in design and configuration of large scale IP network.
4. Experience with security appliance such as firewall, IPS.
5. Proficiency in network trouble shooting, diagnostic and root cause analysis.
6. Expert knowledge of network security systems and protocols including firewalls, Radius and TACACS+, IPSEC and IKE, SSH, etc..
7. In-depth knowledge and working experience in layer 3 routing protocols – RIPv2, OSPFor ISIS, and BGP.
8. Experience using process documentation and communications tools including Excel, MS word, Project, Visio and PowerPoint.

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic
  • Professional certifications such as Security+, CISSP, CCNA, CCNP, etc. are a plus.
  • Experience supporting mission critical hardware and applications in the healthcare industry a plus.
  • Experience implementing DSCP based ACL for QoS on Cisco platform a plus.
Additional Technical Requirements

Demonstrated proficiency with security as it relates to several of the following:
1. Common regulatory requirements, including PCI, HIPAA.
2. Intrusion Detection.
3. Anti-virus.
4. Privacy.
5. Network technologies (firewalls, routers, switches).
6. Security tools and technologies.
7. Penetration Testing and vulnerability assessment-Network, Applications Firewall, VPN, IDS and related network security design and
implementation.
8. Strong endpoint security experience, including network design, implementation, and management.
9. Broad knowledge of VoIP technology and standards (e.g. SIP, COPS, SCTP, MGCP) a plus.
10. Solid understanding of network requirements for real time applications desired.
11. Strong knowledge and experience deploying VoIP services in an enterprise environment a plus.
12. In-depth technical knowledge and understanding of all layers of the protocol stack, including familiarity with major application-layer protocols
such as FTP, HTTP, SMTP, and DNS.
13. Experience implementing DSCP based ACL on Cisco platform a plus
14. Solid experience in WAN network support utilizing WAN optimization tools such as Blue Coat, Packeteer, etc.


Information Security Requirements
1. Understand and comply with all enterprise and IS departmental information security policies, procedures and standards.
2. Support the integration of information security in the development, design, and implementation of Hospital Technology Resources that process,
transmit, or store CHOP information.
3. Support all compliance activities related to state, federal regulatory requirements, healthcare accreditation standards, and all other applicable
regulations that govern the use and disclosure of patient, financial, or other confidential information.
