Job Summary

Under the direction of the exercise laboratory supervisor and the director, this position is responsible for the following duties assigned including: Set-up and maintenance of  all laboratory equipment, preparation of patient for exercise testing, assist in the performance of exercise testing, distribution of test results, assist in exercise laboratory research projects, and  assist in the design and implementation of cardiac rehabilitation program.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Calibration, operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment before, during, and after each procedure.
  2. Prepares patient for exercise testing and assists physician-in-charge in conducting each procedure.
  3. Assists in maintenance of records, compiling test results, billing for procedures and patient files.
  4. Assist supervisor and director with cardiac rehabilitation program including:
    1. Identify and recruit patients
    2. Set-up and instruct classes
    3. Assist in billing for rehabilitation sessions
    4. Keep appropriate records and follow-ups
  5. Assist in training of cardiology fellows and visiting physicians assigned to the lab.
  6. Responds promptly and positively to patients, families, associates, and all other in a respectful, courteous and confidential manner.
    1. Maintains identifiable/professional attire at all times, including using nametags and identification cards.
    2. Answers telephone calls within three rings 95% of the time.
    3. Respects confidentiality of patients and co-workers in all circumstances 100% of the time.
  7. Follows hospital and department procedures and policies.
    1. Attends mandatory sessions/meetings/in-services 100% of the time.
    2. Adheres to attendance policies and procedures.
    3. Demonstrates knowledge and application of CHOP and department policies and procedures.
    4. Reviews policy and procedure updates from managers and CHOP.
  8. Provides or facilitates a clean, safe, quiet and secure environment for all.
    1. Reports any incident that seems unusual/deficient to supervisor and/or Security.
    2. Corrects and/or reports unsafe, unsecured or unclean environment to supervisor and/or Environmental, Health and Safety, or Facilities departments.
    3. Always takes breaks away from patient and family areas.
    4. Keeps self and work area neat and organized.

 

  1. Participates collaboratively in staff meetings, committees, projects and teams to resolve conflicts and meet institutional goals
    1. Attends staff meetings as requested 100% of the time. Is recognized as an “informed” participants or committee member by peers. Completes assignments on time 100% of the time.
    2. Reviews and contributes to the attainment of departmental and CHOP goals annually
    3. Participates and contributes to team projects
    4. Demonstrates knowledge of constant quality improvement values and participates in CHOP and departmental Quality Improvement initiatives.
  2. Identifies own learning needs and obtains necessary education to meet requirements of position.
    1. Attends mandatory education programs 100% of the time.
    2. Documents and reports all necessary education and training.
    3. Attends CCD classes or pursues outside education.
    4. Applies education and training to daily work to enhance job knowledge and skills.
    5. Reviews learning needs with supervisor to set individual education and learning goals on an annual basis.
  3. Follows CHOP and departmental cost control standards: monitors usage of supplies and equipment to eliminate or minimize waste and/or misuse.
  4. Demonstrates knowledge and ability to render age appropriate care and services based on patients’ developmental needs.

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations

CPR - Certified Pulmonary Recuscitation

Required Education and Experience

  • Masters in Exercise Physiology or
  • Bachelors in Exercise Science + minimum of  1-2 years training in an exercise laboratory setting 
  • Knowledge of Pulmonary Function Testing and measurement of breath-by-breath  respiratory indices
  • Previous experience in physical/ health education teaching or aerobic instruction.

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

  • Minimum 1-2 years working as a technician in an exercise laboratory in which 50%  of the testing is performed on children less than the age of 18 years of age is preferred.

Additional Technical Requirements

  • Exercise laboratory technical experience
  • Computer familiarity
  • Aerobics Instructor/Exercise coordinator experience, and personal interest in physical fitness.
  • Good communication skills and creativity
  • Ability to work with independent judgment  and to work independently in emergency situations.
