Job Summary

The IS Developer will:


1.    Develop for and extend the functionality of Drupal content management system in support of large-scale, enterprise-level web property; Perform WordPress development for related microsites; develop custom applications in support of these sites and systems.
2.    Exhibit in-depth knowledge of PHP and at least one additional modern programming language and the application development life cycle.
3.    Have strong full-stack development, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills.  
4.    Demonstrate intermediate knowledge of project management software and related tools.
5.    Work closely with other developers, clients, and external vendors to gather requirements, estimate timelines, and execute implementation plans. 
6.    Have the ability to become subject matter expert in the applications they develop or are responsible for.   
7.    Exhibit knowledge of and contribute to developing best practices, policies, and procedures.  
8.    Exhibit the ability to work with minimal supervision in support of team initiatives.
9.    Be familiar with Agile software development and project management methodologies.


The position requires outstanding written and verbal communications skills, high emotional intelligence, and ability to develop strong relationships with internal and external customers across the organization.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Performs routine operational support, maintenance and system configuration as defined in departmental operating procedures.

  2. Identifies, analyzes and resolves data and system issues of intermediate complexity. Demonstrates ability to diagnose and resolve technical, management, and business issues and to recommend areas for process improvement or innovation.

  3. Exhibits the ability to work on concurrent projects and to work with a reasonable degree of autonomy in support of team initiatives.

  4. Attends specific client-based meetings and directs the communication of client needs to the appropriate support/service groups.

  5. Actively participates with clients, internal and external, to elicit, analyze and document business and functional requirements through requirements workshops, interviews or meeting sessions with Project Sponsors, SMEs and other Stakeholders to diagnose and resolve complex technical, management, and business issues. Identify and document business and technical requirements using standard templates

  6. Participates in the development, validation and execution of comprehensive test plans.

  7. Monitors effectiveness of current business practices and identifies areas for improvement/innovation.

  8. Performs 24/7 on call support if applicable.

  9. Communicates effectively with clients and colleagues.

  10. May be required to travel to/from and work in the various CHOP locations, including patient care areas.

  11. May be required to travel for mandatory certifications.

  12. May be designated a “Health Care Worker”

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Bachelors of/in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business. 


Required Experience: Relevant application and integration development experience (1-3 years)

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Experience: Relevant experience (1-3 years) within a healthcare environment

To carry out its mission, it is of critical importance for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) to keep our patients, families and workforce safe and healthy and to support the health of our global community.
