Job Summary

The Director of System & Performance Analytics will lead data and analytics activities to measure, monitor, and improve enterprise performance, lead Epic (Cogito) Analytics, and partner with operational functions to drive increased use of data to drive improved operational performance. The Director of System & Performance Analytics will report to the Vice President of Analytics and is a key member of the leadership team of the Center of Healthcare Quality & Analytics. 

 

The Director of System & Performance Analytics has responsibility for developing a data & analytics strategy which measures and improves performance, lead the strategy and vision for Epic (Cogito) Analytics at CHOP, and partnering with operational functions to utilize analytics to achieve business objectives. You will lead a cross-functional team of data analysts, analytics engineers, and data scientists to develop scalable data & analytics products and provide real-time data and actionable insights that drive improved performance to operational leaders across the enterprise.  

 

The Director of System & Performance Analytics will work with senior leaders across the enterprise to develop Key Performance Indicators, enterprise performance dashboards, self-service analytics solutions, and predictive analytics models to drive improved performance. In addition, the Director of System & Performance Analytics will support key operational functions (Access, HR, Supply Chain, Marketing) to identify opportunities and utilize, data, analytics, and artificial intelligence to develop data & analytics solutions which improve operational performance. The System & Performance Analytics Director will also work closely with Epic and partner with Information Services, Clinical, and Operational leaders to develop an enterprise analytics strategy for Cogito tools. This role will work with stakeholders to drive data governance and quality efforts to ensure data is a trusted strategic asset that is utilized to make data-driven operational decisions. The Director of System & Performance Analytics will also be an evangelist for data and analytics concepts and foster a culture which increases data literacy across the enterprise via the continued training and development of power users. 

 

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced analytics leader to work with senior leadership to develop the strategy and vision for system & performance analytics at CHOP. This leader will have the opportunity to drive significant impact using data to improve performance across the enterprise. They will have the opportunity to utilize modern data & analytics tools and techniques to provide actionable insights to departmental leaders while working with a highly talented, progressive, and innovative team which is transforming data & analytics across the enterprise. 

 

The Director of System Performance & Analytics must have a close working relationship with analytics leaders within CHQA (Center of Healthcare Quality & Analytics).  He/she must also establish strong relationships and successful collaborations with Executives, Administrators, Departmental and Divisional physician leadership, and Operational leaders. The Director of System & Performance Analytics will be viewed by the enterprise as a trusted partner and will provide key analytics insights and data-driven recommendations to help operational leaders make optimal data-driven decisions. The Data & Analytics Team within CHQA provides data & analytics services across the enterprise, including data engineering, analytics, applied data science, data literacy, and data trust. 

Job Responsibilities

1.    Operational Oversight

  • Partner with stakeholders to identify opportunities to leverage data & analytics to measure and improve operational performance.  
  • Develop a data & analytics strategy and roadmap that is in alignment with the enterprise data & analytics strategy and advances analytical maturity within operational departments.
  • Define and own the roadmap and drive end-to-end development efforts (analytics engineering, analytics, and advanced analytics) for the development of high-quality, scalable and innovative analytics solutions that meet customer needs, product vision, and roadmap. 
  • Lead the development of Cogito Analytics strategy, define best practices, and lead implementation of Cogito Analytics tools. 
  • Identify, define, develop, and publish KPIs and operational scorecards which monitor system performance. 
  • Perform deep-dive analysis of KPIs, identify underlying drivers, uncover new insights and make data-driven recommendations to clinical stakeholders which result in improved business and clinical performance. 
  • Utilize Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning to develop and operationalize predictive models which drive growth, reduce cost, and increase revenues. 
  • Partner with data and analytics engineering to develop scalable, self-service analytics products which are automated and contain trusted data utilized for decision-making by clinical stakeholders.  
  • Lead activities to improve operational performance using data as well as quality improvement analytics. 
  • Lead cross-functional, agile, teams of  analytics engineers, data analysts, and data scientists to develop or implement analytics solutions which lead to achieving significant improvements in clinical, quality, and operational performance .
  • Partner with Data Trust Office on data governance, data quality, data stewardship, and data cataloguing initiatives to ensure clinical data is highly accessible and a trusted, strategic asset across the enterprise. 
  • Provide expertise and thought leadership in data management, data ingestion, data analysis, advanced analytics and data visualization. Assist in establishing standards across the enterprise. 
  • Partner with the CHOP Data & Analytics University to develop course work which increases data literacy and advances a data-driven culture across the enterprise.    


2.    Resource Management

  • Lead a high-performing, agile, analytics team to deliver automated, end-to-end, technical solutions which have a significant operational return on investment. 
  • Mentor staff and develop a world-class, high performing, data and analytics team by establishing and clearly outlining career development goals. 
  • Manage daily routine activities such as coordination, coaching, mentoring, recruiting, budgeting, planning, delivery, quality, partner relationships, performance metrics, operations, efficiency, service level management, etc.
  • Drive a strong culture of client focus within the team ensuring work is of high-quality, on schedule, and exceeds customer expectations.

3.    Strategic Planning

  • Develop an analytics strategy which is aligned with and accelerates the achievement of departmental strategic goals and objectives. 
  • Engage with committees and key organizational decision makers to ensure alignment with organizational, departmental, and division strategy
  • Understand industry direction and position CHOP optimally
  • Think strategically: See patterns and relationships in information and events; clarify and simplify complex information; anticipate trends and possibilities that may lead to new business opportunities; consistently think and act “ahead of the curve;” anticipate and effectively respond with urgency to immediate opportunities; executes plans vigorously and with flexibility; operate proactively; identify and address long-term opportunities


4.    Partnerships

  • Build and maintain partnerships internal and external to the organization
  • Support quality improvement activities 
  • Partner with Financial Analytics and CHQA Leadership 
  • Support clinical departments and divisions across the enterprise with data & analytics needs. 
  • Build community and knowledge sharing for data analysts across the organization

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Bachelors 


Required Experience: 

  • At least five (5) years’ experience in a management role leading data and analytics teams.

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Education: Masters’ degree

Additional Technical Requirements

  • Requires broad knowledge of the field with demonstrated leadership skills and experience in area of supervision.
  • Requires outstanding verbal, written, presentation and data storytelling skills; the ability make a compelling business case and tell a story using data. 
  • Ability to simplify complex ideas and communicate them effectively to a non-technical audience. 
  • Strong at goal setting, delivery, and execution ensuring clear success metrics are identified and customer service expectations are defined, monitored, and met. (i.e., SLAs and customer service KPIs). 
  • Work across a diverse set of teams and vendors to deliver solutions that align with Business strategy and initiatives. 
  • Ensure that the team has an effective organizational development, training and succession plan that in aligns with our overall workforce and location strategy.
  • Ability to manage and balance multiple projects, effectively communicate goals, timelines, and challenges and set customer expectations. 
  • Healthcare experience required.
  • Knowledge of and experience in Business Intelligence software products such as Business Objects, Qlik, Power BI, Tableau as well as technology trends in this space
  • Knowledge and experience leading analytics teams in developing enterprise-level, self-service, data & analytics products 
  • Knowledge and experience working in and driving culture change towards working in an agile development environment
  • Knowledge of data warehousing, data modeling, and experience in developing scalable data infrastructure to power enterprise analytics products 
  • Knowledge and experience with advanced analytics; statistics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, development and implementation of predictive analytics in clinical or operational settings. 
  • Knowledge and experience working with an enterprise data catalogue to store analytics products, metadata, and data lineage. 
  • Knowledge and experience working in an advanced data ops environment which utilizes version control (Github), release engineering, and automation (CI/CD) for release management. 
  • Knowledge and experience working with Epic analytics products (Caboodle, radar, slicer dicer, reporting workbench) required.  
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) a plus. 
  • Experience with R, Python, MatLab, Apache Spark, and data science platforms a plus.
