Job Summary

The Director will represent the Investment Office for CHOP and will report directly to the Chief Investment Officer and work with her in managing both the portfolio and Investment Office operations. This role requires the ability to analyze and synthesize data, exercise independent judgment, build relationships, and create high quality deliverables. The Director will also serve as a part of the larger team, providing support as needed. They will work on a total portfolio level and sub-portfolio level to report on performance, exposure measurement, performance attribution, liquidity monitoring, and statistical risk measurement. They will provide oversight of the portfolio under CIO guidance to manage all operational responsibilities and develop best practices related to all operational functions.


Project Management

  • Analyzes portfolio performance, risk factors & exposures, and cash flow projections
  • Conducts a project to evaluate available and appropriate off-the-shelf risk management systems, followed by implementation of the selected system and integration into the Investment Office processes

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate must be flexible and interested in a broad range of investment topics to:

  • Support the CIO oversight of the portfolio and management of the Investment Office’s operations
  • Oversee portfolio reporting, including analytics, exposures, performance and attribution
  • Manage external vendor relationships (custody, brokerage, risk system, IT etc.)
  • Manage execution of investments, including trading, rebalancing, etc.
  • Support annual audit process and valuation of the portfolio
  • Work closely with our Finance colleagues within CHOP
  • Continue refinement of investment documentation and knowledge management process
  • Work closely with consultants to coordinate and ensure accuracy of reporting
  • Lead the operational due diligence process for existing and prospective managers

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree


Required Experience: Ten (10) years of experience in an investment or finance function; previous experience with trading, compliance and managing counterparty relationships; previous exposure to traditional and alternative investment strategies

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Education: Masters degree


Preferred Experience: Experience at a $2 billion plus Endowment, Foundation, or Family Office; experience leading the reporting, operations or middle office function at an asset management firm; community engagement


Preferred Licenses/certificates/registrations: CFA or CPA

  • Highly effective in ambiguous environment and able to produce maximum results with little direction and guidance.
  • Interest in the endowment model of investing
  • Advanced Excel and modeling skills with competence across the Microsoft Office Suite; working knowledge of Bloomberg
