Job Summary

The Center for Data-Driven Discovery in Biomedicine (D3b - d3b.center) is seeking talented engineers to build and scale solutions for accelerating discovery and advancements in child health. We’re looking for creative problem solvers that are passionate about automation and measuring everything. In the role of devops engineer, you will join a team building software and infrastructure for handling large and complex biomedical data. Your role will focus on automation, reliability, performance, and security of the software and infrastructure. Successful devops engineers will gain a deep technical and quantitative understanding of the system, software, and security architectures to provide innovative and scalable solutions. Experience with protected health information is beneficial, but not required. 

Job Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include: 
1.    Provide technical expertise in designing and developing systems and best practices that are cost effective and meet user requirements complying with appropriate security standards
2.    Design, develop and maintain automated frameworks for enabling cloud-based agile software development and testing
3.    Deploy the latest in CI/CD technologies and containerized solutions.  Maintain and improve CI/CD infrastructure and pipelines to rapidly deliver software applications. 
4.    Develop solutions that will provide monitoring, logging, and alerting capabilities.  Use monitoring tools and metrics to analyze performance and characterize limitations and bottlenecks.
5.    Continuously learn and evaluate emerging devops principles, methodologies, and technologies 
 

Required Education and Experience

 

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience will be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in the DevOps field

Additional Technical Requirements

Required experience with:
-    Amazon Web Services
-    Linux system administration
-    Git
-    Scripting languages, Bash and Python preferred
-    Infrastructure as code with tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible
-    Continuous integration and automated deployment with tools such as Jenkins, Travis CI
-    Containers/container orchestration with tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, Mesos, ECS  
-    Monitoring, logging and alerting with tools such as Elastic Stack, Graphite, CloudWatch, PagerDuty, OpsGenie, SumoLogic
-    Effective communication within a multidisciplinary team 

 

Preferred experience with:
-    Cloud platforms such as AWS/GCP/Azure
-    Data frameworks such as EMR, Spark, Hadoop, Kafka, Flink
-    Database administration and performance
-    High performance computing and schedulers
-    Network configuration and security
