Job Summary

The Enterprise Data & Analytics Team focuses on enabling Data driven decision making for Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Its mission is to ingest, manage, and transform the enterprise's data assets into actionable insights which improve the healthcare delivery system. The Enterprise Data & Analytics team functions include Engineering, Application Development, Data Governance, Business Intelligence, Analytics Services (Visualization, Process Improvement, and Business Analysis) and Advanced Analytics.

 

This position will be responsible for leading a team of application administrators and DevOps Engineers to build and support the data analytics platform. This role will be responsible for contributing to system architecture to improve service reliability and automation capabilities. This role will be responsible for establishing standards and best practices for the administering, building, deploying, and monitoring data applications at CHOP.

 

The ideal candidate is experienced in managing operational aspects of data and analytics platforms and tools (on-premises as well as Cloud) to ensure optimal delivery of the service to keep high standards of experience for the end users as well as Developers. The right candidate will be excited by the prospect of optimizing or even re-designing our company's data architecture to support our next generation of products and data initiatives.

Job Responsibilities

  • Team Supervision – responsible for direct line management of a team, include status reporting and year end reviews.
  • Project Management – responsible for project management including project estimation, resource allocation, and RFP/RFIs.
  • Platform Integration – incorporate new tools into the CHOP Data Ecosystem while maintaining enterprise best practices and adhering to information security standards.
  • Administration – Responsible for the care and feeding for the technologies/tools which support the CHOP Data Ecosystem. Including maintenance, patching, upgrades
  • Governance / Best Practices – adhere and contribute to enterprise data governance standards. Also educates and supports colleagues in best practices to ensure that data is used appropriately
  • Product Ownership – collaborate and act as the voice of the customer to offer concrete feedback and project requests as well as an advocate for analytics from within the business units themselves.
  • Continuous Improvement - Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data/platform delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
  • Develop analytics tools that utilize data resources to provide actionable insights, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics.
  • Work with stakeholders including the Executive, Clinical, and Analyst teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.
  • Work with technology teams to define and enforce security safeguards which support ease of administration (RBAC)
  • Make recommendations about platform adoption, including technology integrations, application servers, libraries, and frameworks.
  • Maintain and support a shared production on-call support model for the team.
  • Be a critical part of an Agile Scrum software development team, ensuring the team successfully meets its deliverables each sprint.Establish best practices for managing infrastructure as code.

Required Education and Experience

 

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree

 

Required Experience:

  • At least seven (7) years Administration of Business Intelligence/Visualization tools such as SAP Business Objects, Qlik, Power BI etc. OR
  • At least seven (7) years Any Database administration OR
  • At least seven (7) years Data Warehousing Platforms/tools (including ETL solutions)

 

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

 

Preferred Education:

  • Master's Degree

 

Preferred Experience:

  • At least eight (8) years Administration of Business Intelligence/Visualization tools such as SAP Business Objects, Qlik, Power BI etc. AND
  • At least eight (8) years Any Database administration OR 
  • At least eight (8) years Data Warehousing Platforms/tools (including ETL solutions) OR
  • At least one (1) year Working with at least one of the public cloud platforms such AWS/Azure/GCP.

Additional Technical Requirements

  • Expert level knowledge of managing at least one of the Business Intelligence/Visualization products.
  • Knowledge of version control systems such as Git.
  • Experience utilizing Agile methodology for development
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes
  • Strong communication, project management and organizational skills
  • Basic understanding of Operating systems, networking concepts and application architecture patterns
  • Ability to code with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, groovy etc.,
  • Knowledge of Container Orchestration platforms such as Docker, Kubernetes etc.,
  • Knowledge of big data toolset: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Hive, sqoop etc.
  • Basic knowledge of data integration tools: DBT, Informatica, MS Integration Services etc.
  • Knowledge of stream-processing systems: IBM Streams, Flume, Storm, Spark-Streaming, etc.
  • Basic understanding of ways to consume and build APIs

To carry out its mission, it is of critical importance for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) to keep our patients, families and workforce safe and healthy and to support the health of our global community. In keeping with this, CHOP has mandated all workforce members on site at any CHOP location for any portion of their time be vaccinated for COVID-19 as a condition of employment.  This mandate also applies to workforce members performing work for CHOP at non-CHOP locations.
