Job Summary

We are the Center for Data-Driven Discovery in Biomedicine (D3b -, an ambitious and unique blend of software developers, scientists, clinicians, and researchers working together to fundamentally change how childhood cancers and developmental diseases are treated and cured.


It is our mission to build and scale data solutions that help researchers analyze biological and genomic data from children all over the world spanning many diseases, so that they may discover insights that lead to cures or dramatically improved treatment options.


We want creative problem solvers that are passionate about data and excited to learn whatever is needed to empower our mission. You will design our data infrastructure and use it to develop extensible, robust data and analytics pipelines, tools, visualizations, and services for accessible and flexible data analysis.

Who you are:
●    You have worked with a range of languages and technologies, but you especially have strong experience in Python
●    You have a good understanding of relational databases like PostgreSQL or MySQL
●    You have experience with data modeling and schema design
●    You are comfortable working in *nix environments
●    You are passionate about performance, reliability, and scalability of systems
●    You seek simple approaches to complex problems
●    You are inspired by our mission to improve pediatric disease research through data
●    You like science and/or medicine just because it’s cool

Bonus points for any of the following:
●    You have developed systems, infrastructure, and tooling for processing complex datasets and/or have developed scalable high-availability web applications
●    Have experience working with Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, etc.
●    You believe in the power of CI/CD and have experience with containerization technologies like Docker
●    Have experience working with biomedical/life sciences data or HL7 FHIR

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree


Required Experience:

  • At least three (3) years of programming experience with progressively more complex projects.
  • Previous experience with continuous learning and adoption of new languages and frameworks.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in quality assurance, continuous integration and deployment, configuration management, or other aspect of software and application validation.
  • Previous experience of staying current by evaluating and implementing the latest and greatest QA/CID tools and processes.
Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic


Preferred Education: Master’s degree in computer science, biomedical engineering, information science, or related field


Preferred Experience:

  • Four (4) or more years of programming experience with progressively more complex projects.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience developing, configuring, or customizing software in a clinical environment.


Preferred Licenses/certificates/registrations: Epic Certifications
