Job Summary

Dr. Allison Curry, PhD, MPH, Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and Director of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the CHOP Center for Injury Research and Prevention (CIRP), is seeking a talented and strongly self-motivated individual to join her interdisciplinary research team as a Data Analyst I. The Data Analyst will work as an integral member of the data team to create, maintain, and expand the innovative New Jersey Safety and Health Outcomes (NJ-SHO) Resource Center data dashboard and the underlying NJ-SHO data warehouse (https://injury.research.chop.edu/new-jersey-safety-and-health-outcomes-data-warehouse). The Data Analyst I will be responsible for: acquiring, cleaning, and preparing new data sets prior to data integration; conducting activities to integrate data from various sources and evaluate results; constructing relational tables; and documenting processes and maintaining metadata of the final warehouse tables. In addition, the Analyst will engage and closely collaborate with other study team members to produce high-quality data sets and conduct sophisticated analyses of NJ-SHO and other project data related to safety and health outcomes. The Analyst will also contribute to routine and ad hoc reports for internal and external stakeholders as well as the creation of graphical and tabular data visualizations for the dashboard. This position will work closely with research staff and may assume supervisory responsibilities for research assistants, students, or trainees. The Analyst should have prior experience and comfort working with research teams, managing large administrative datasets, and using statistical software (i.e., intermediate user of SAS or similar programming language).

 

The Analyst will be directly supervised by the team’s Director of Data Analytics and Director of Data Integration. Position is contingent on grant funding. This dynamic research team includes a mix of remote, in person, and hybrid staff in several locations. We are flexible to applicant’s preferred working arrangements. Job Responsibilities

Data Collection, Analysis, and Reporting

  • Works in partnership to understand and prioritize data needed for the research program to meet research goals, grant deadlines, or regulatory requirements.
  • Conducts rigorous analysis of data utilizing complex statistical methods, including repeated measures analyses and multi-level modeling.
  • Prepares tables, charts, and data visualizations of study results with the ability to tailor reports and presentation to different team members, internal and external stakeholders, and funders.
  • Contributes to the preparation of peer-reviewed manuscripts, including writing, editing, and interpretation of data and results.

 

Database Development and Management

  • Develops the design of the data warehouse and its implementation in order to optimize its analytical structure.
  • Partners in integrating data from multiple sources to create relational databases for the purpose of analysis and reporting, including transfer and integration of data across databases.
  • Generates reports from data systems and links multiple data sets to create large databases of surveys, clinical, and/or other data.
  • Programs large data sets and reporting tools to make the data usable for the end user and creates data sets and/or reports for analysis and manipulation by users.
  • Maintains data on cloud-based and local servers.

 

Quality Improvement and Documentation

  • Maintains the quality improvement infrastructure, suggesting workable structures and processes, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing outcomes measurement systems.
  • Maintains up-to-date data dictionaries and metadata.
  • Oversees and coordinates data quality and assurance reviews, including developing and maintaining replicable processes to prospectively identify barriers and challenges and identify possible solutions.
  • Produces high-quality documentation of database management and related processes.

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree

 

Required Experience:

  • One (1) year of data analysis or database management experience.

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Education:  Bachelor’s degree in clinical informatics, sciences, math, statistics, healthcare management or other healthcare related degree.

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Three (3) years of data analysis or database management experience.
  • Previous experience working in a complex health care related environment

Additional Technical Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of database management, mining, analysis and statistics.
  • Intermediate knowledge of programming languages (SQL)
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
  • Advanced proficiency with spreadsheet software (Microsoft Excel)

To carry out its mission, it is of critical importance for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) to keep our patients, families and workforce safe and healthy and to support the health of our global community. In keeping with this, CHOP has mandated all workforce members on site at any CHOP location for any portion of their time be vaccinated for COVID-19.
