Job Summary

This role provides broad communication support to a Center or Department, including managing the creation of social media, editorial and website content.


Under general guidance, this position partners with internal stakeholders to help plan and execute communications strategies to disseminate research, advocate for policies, and/or raise awareness of product or service offerings.

Job Responsibilities

PolicyLab at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is seeking a Communications Associate to join our communications team. PolicyLab is a research center within CHOP’s Research Institute that aims to achieve optimal child health and well-being by informing program and policy changes through interdisciplinary research.



PolicyLab offers this exciting opportunity to impact the organization’s mission by providing broad support to PolicyLab’s communications, as well as direct support to PolicyLab research teams on dissemination of their research and initiatives to reach internal and external audiences. This position will also work collaboratively with PolicyLab’s policy team and research portfolio leadership on strategies and tactics to advance the center’s policy and research priorities. The Communications Associate will manage PolicyLab’s social media outreach and contribute to several important writing projects. Experience with graphic design and/or video production is desired, but not required.



The Communications Associate position is ideal for an early-career communications professional with a background/interest in health who is looking to develop their skills in strategic communications planning, social media strategy and translation of research. A strong foundation in writing and the ability to work well on a team are keys to success in this role. This position reports to the Senior Communications and Operations Manager.


Job Responsibilities (Continued)

Collaborate with PolicyLab researchers to create and carry out dissemination strategies and tactics for their articles and other work, with a view towards broader public policy influence


Execute PolicyLab’s social media strategy, drafting content, developing social media analytics reports and identifying new ways for PolicyLab to enhance its social media presence


Execute strategic communications plans for two of PolicyLab’s five thematic research portfolios


Conduct writing and editing projects including editing and writing blog posts for PolicyLab’s blog and assisting in the development of policy and research-translation materials


Conduct other duties as assigned

Collaborate with faculty, staff and other internal stakeholders on dissemination strategies and tactics around research articles, products, service offerings or policy opportunities, with a view towards broader public influence and/or awareness


Execute a variety of design projects, including tools, presentations, and graphics


Work closely with internal stakeholders to develop content and materials that support department/center goals


Edit, write and post blog posts and other editorial content


Contribute to, edit and disseminate internal and external newsletters


Maintain and edit website and social media content


May provide direction or oversight to interns


Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations
Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree


Required Experience: Two (2) years of related communications experience

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous experience with graphic design and/or video production
Additional Technical Requirements
  • Intermediate proficiency managing professional social media accounts (Twitter)
