Job Summary

The Division of Neonatology is seeking a clinical research nurse to join their robust research program- key research areas include: understanding the fundamental biology of preterm birth and its complications, rigorously testing new therapeutics in newborns through expertly designed clinical trials, developing new knowledge about risk factors for poor outcomes in sick neonates through rigorous observational studies, and developing new understanding of the social and medical impact of the organization and economy of healthcare delivery structures on maternal and child health.

The research strengths in the Division of Neonatology include a health services and maternal-child health epidemiology research core focusing on health care systems, social determinants of health, quality care assessment, and environmental-genetic drivers of adverse perinatal outcomes. The Division has recognized strength in neonatal follow-up and outcomes research; laboratory research into the fetal origins of adult disease, the causes of preterm birth and fetal growth restriction, inflammatory lung diseases, and drug discovery for rare genetic diseases; and research in neonatal infectious disease, antibiotic stewardship and the microbiome and its impact of long term health.

In addition, the Division also serves as a national leader in the development and conduct of multicenter and single-center clinical trials. As a member of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Neonatal Research Network, the Division is at the forefront of academic centers in clinical and epidemiological research in the U.S.

Job Responsibilities

Expected to Perform all CRC Core responsibilities (as applicable):

  • Adhere to an IRB approved protocol

  • Coordinate protocol related research procedures, study visits, and follow-up care

  • Participate in the informed consent process of study subjects, screen, recruit and enroll patients/research participants

  • Support the safety of clinical research patients/research participants

  • Educate subjects and family on protocol, study intervention, study drug, etc.

  • Register study on ClinicalTrial.gov

  • Facilitate pre-study, site qualification,study initiation, and monitoring visits

  • Facilitate study close out activities

  • Coordinate research/project team meetings

  • Collect, process and ship laboratory specimens

  • Maintain study source documents and regulatory documents

  • Report adverse events

  • Comply with Institutional, federal, state, and sponsor policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidelines

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations

CPR Certification
Registered Nursing License in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or in the State of New Jersey, depending on the assigned work location.

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Associates Degree in Nursing

Required Experience: One (1) year of experience in nursing/research

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree

Preferred Licenses/certificates/registrations: ACRP or SOCRA

Additional Technical Requirements

Clinical Research Nurse responsibilities include but are not limited to CHOP mandatories and competencies for nurses, physical assessment, vital signs, administering investigational drugs and accessing lines for labs and pharmacokinetic sampling.

All CHOP employees who work in a patient building or who provide patient care are required to receive an annual influenza vaccine unless they are granted a medical or religious exemption.
