Job Summary

The Center for Injury Research and Prevention (CIRP) at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is seeking a full time Project Manager (PM) to support a new concussion research study. The PM will work with multiple interdisciplinary research and program teams, including investigators, physicians, researchers, statisticians, clinical staff, and students. 

The PM will lead a newly funded NIH R01 that will enroll healthy and concussed adolescents to complete a study visit in the advanced driving simulation laboratory at CIRP and/or prospectively monitor driving behaviors with an app. The PM will be involved in protocol development; manage IRB related activities and compliance with NIH requirements; recruit, enroll and conduct study visits with adolescents; support data management and analysis; and lead day to day activities and communications between study team members. 

Position contingent upon grant funding. 

Job Responsibilities

Project Management:

  • Develop, manage and execute work plans, deliverables and project reports/updates. 
  • Collaborate with management to set project/operational priorities, resources and risks.


Project Execution:

  • Manage project execution including milestones, documentation, schedules, roles, responsibilities and progress.
  • Complete post-project evaluations to determine project outcomes.
  • Develop tools and processes to support projects and division operations.


Data Collection, Analysis and Reporting:

  • Coordinate and perform data collection (e.g., databases, surveys). 
  • Conduct basic qualitative and quantitative analysis and communicate results.
  • Identify opportunities for data reporting and collaborate to facilitate data requests.
  • Assist with other operational needs including professional practice evaluations (OPPEs), provider letters and scorecards. 


  • Manage communications and relationships with project stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and facilitate project meetings and coach project team members.
  • Provide education on project management, improvement tools and methodologies.

1. Conducts study start up activities

  • Supports protocol and consent development and manage IRB related activities.
  • Develops case report forms and REDCap database for project

2. Conducts study activities related to ongoing research projects as needed.

  • Supports research team in study activities including but not limited to recruitment, enrollment, and completion of study visits.
  • Develops in-depth understanding of current protocols in order to perform tasks related to development of new protocols and projects.
  • Conducts research study activities and technical support related to driving simulator and on-road driving application

3. Performs specific administrative research duties according to work plan & priorities set forth by leadership.

  • Provide direct administrative support to Investigators as needed.
  • Provide technical support to study projects including but not limited to interfacing with REDCap administration and IS.

4. Initiates and maintains effective relationships with both internal and external collaborators, research team members, and project sponsors.

  • Act as liaison with team members, study sites, and sponsors to ensure effective communication and dissemination of accurate information.
  • Maintain effective relationship, on behalf of investigators and sponsors, with approved vendors conducting specific scopes of work.  Meet with vendors as needed.
  • Maintain effective relationships with research business administration and ensure that all elements of grants are uploaded to appropriate systems with accuracy and in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that investigator(s) and relevant members of the study team are kept up to date on all relevant activities within the research study.
Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations
Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree


Required Experience:

  • Two (2) years relevant project coordination / management experience.
Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Education: Master’s degree


Preferred Experience:

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or research related environment


Preferred Licenses/certificates/registrations:

Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), ASQ Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB) Certifications

Additional Technical Requirements
  • Intermediate knowledge of Project Management Body of Knowledge guidelines (PMBOK) including productivity tools, project charters, work plans and budgets.
  • Intermediate knowledge of quality improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma)
  • Basic knowledge of electronic medical record software (EPIC)
  • Intermediate proficiency with office software (Microsoft Office) including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
