Job Summary

Uses engineering principles and experience to solve complicated technical issues related to the use of biomedical instrumentation and provides support to all technical personnel.  Works with the Senior Clinical Engineer to evaluate new technologies that are being considered for purchase. Provides technical support related to special projects. Evaluates and writes preventive maintenances procedures for new and existing medical devices. Evaluates product recalls and Safetynets and determines their impact on patient care. 

Job Responsibilities
  • Resolves clinical and technical problems related to the safe and effective use of clinical equipment by working with Senior Clinical Engineer, and technical staff, along with vendors to gain the information needed to develop and beneficial solution. 
  • Provides technical leadership related to special projects as assigned by the Senior Clinical Engineer.
  • Develops standardized inspection and preventive maintenance procedures to be used by the department’s Biomedical Equipment Technologists.
  • Assists with the testing requirements and procedures for the evaluation of new medical device technologies.
  • Evaluates department’s test equipment needs matching available technologies and makes recommendations to department staff.
Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Bachelors in Biomedical, Clinical Engineering or related field of study.


Required Experience: A minimum of 1 year experience in a clinical setting.

Additional Technical Requirements
  • Knowledge of medical device theory and application.
  • Knowledge and experience using accepted engineering principles in electronics, pneumatics, and mechanics.
  • Must have solid technical writing skills.
  • Good understanding of human physiology and how it interfaces with technology.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are needed in all aspects of the job.
