Job Summary


Clinical Research Nurse Team Manager- Anesthesiology and Critical Care is responsible for the overall coordination of all clinical research activities within the Division of Critical Care Medicine. 

Facilitates the conduct of clinical research, and assures all staff and principal investigators practice within GCP guidelines. In collaboration with DivisionAdministrator and Research Business Manager, oversees the financial and administrative aspects of the divisions’ clinical research activities, including budget preparation and financial management of studies. 

Supervises all other research personnel within the clinical division. Provides education and mentorship to staff regarding research studies. Participates in direct patient care only within the scope of clinical research protocols.


Job Responsibilities

Direct and facilitate the development and timely completion of clinical research studies in the division in relation to:

Protocol development

Subject screening, consenting and enrollment

Study training and staff assignment

Data collection and maintenance of study records

Study conduct is within good practice guidelines

Database input and management for statistical analyses


Supervise all clinical research personnel within the division: 

Recruit, develop and retain qualified, competent staff.

Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and discipline as necessary for all research study personnel, including work study students and summer interns.

Monitor time and attendance and approve paid time off.

Oversee and assist in the development of ways to encourage/incent/reward excellent job performance.


Perform administrative functions to ensure quality and compliance with institutional policies and state and federal regulations related to clinical research: 

Assist Division Chief, Research Directors and Division Administrator in managing divisional research budgets in accordance with established guidelines.

Meet regularly with Research Business Manager regarding study budgets, income, and expenses.

Facilitate the timely completion and quality assurance of regulatory documents related to each study; act as a resource for research regulatory documentation.

Collaborate with the principal investigators on new initiatives.

Develop, maintain, and present management reports on clinical research activity within the division.

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations

SOCRA or ACRP certification (1 yr)

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree with minimum 7-9 years clinical research experience or a Masters Degree in Public Health (or related field) with at least 5-7 years clinical research experience.

  • Experience with IND or IDE clinical trials
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and drive processes
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and/or teams

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

  • Bachelor’s Science Nursing (BSN)

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • RN - Registered Nurse
  • Pediatric experience preferred
  • ACRP (1 Year)
  • Graduate of an ACEN and/or CCNE accredited school of nursing or college

  • 3 years clinical nursing experience
  • 3-5 years clinical research experience
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Previous experience with research financial management

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

  • More advanced degree in related field or 5 additional years of experience.
  • Previous pediatric clinical nursing experience
  • Previous pediatric ICU experience

Additional Technical Requirements

  • Strong ability to work with Excel, RedCap and other data software programs
  • Experience with electronic research programs and reporting tools (eSPA, eIRB, eTRACK, Business Objects, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication, listening and presentation skills.
  • Must have strong coordination, communication, organization development, program planning & implementation, project management, operational, and financial skills.
  • Ability to use collaborative and inclusive approach to resolve internal and interdepartmental issues.  Establishes collaborative relationships with appropriate individuals for this project. 
  • Ability to interact effectively and appropriately when dealing with others.
  • Skill in listening and communicating efficiently and effectively both orally and in writing with a variety of internal and external individuals.
  • Skill in supervising, mentoring and team-building in order to provide guidance and instruction to others.
  • Ability to exercise the initiative and resourcefulness necessary for prioritizing multiple and ongoing initiatives within the overall research project goals.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of study design methods, including the use of epidemiological methodology in population research is preferred, but not essential.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team, both as a leader within management as well as a leader to staff.
